Sony buying Crytek? Lol, as if.

Wonder how many of the 800 employees they'd have to let go, to have Crytek be financially viable for them.

Tidux's big news: it's a rumor:

- Sony is looking to expand their existing studios. and the company being reviewed right now is in big trouble. But what I hear Sony will be interested in buying a big company fot it´s studios. but they are checking if there is any profit to buy this company right now. Thats all fokes

If true, this is HUGE

Capcom seems like the better buy IMO.  CryEngine 3 is a valuable asset, but what else is there?  Ubi owns Far Cry now.  Crysis is pretty much a dead franchise.  MS owns Ryse.  Am I missing any big IPs Crytek owns that a console maker would want?

As far as I'm aware, that's false.

But I'd love it of course if Sony really wants to expand their first party, not only because of the games but also because it'd silence the people that say things like "Sony isn't supporting the PS4" or "Sony will have much less studios in a couple years".

I'd just look into a company that they have more ties to already, maybe something japanese (not Capcom, what I said about Nintendo and Capcom also goes for Sony).

I just looked at the list of Crytek developed games. The only franchises with potential are Crysis (which as far as I'm aware is done), Homefront and Ryse, while Warface could be a nice little f2p game. Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age could also be good.

But then again, Crytek has like 8 studios with around 800 employees, so you obviously could gain a lot of games from those studios.

Yep definitely false. They want to, but they don't.

Ok, so assuming Crytek owns Ryse, I still don't see it as incentive enough to purchase the studio for.   Was Ryse uber-successful?

It wasn't, but it's obviously a franchise with good potential.

None of those are really big console franchises IMO.  Would you rather own those IPs or RE, Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, DMC, Mega Man, etc?

Well, they'd need to make changes at both Crytek and Capcom to be able to turn those studios around. Though, it may be easier/cheaper for them to develop engines if only working on a single scaling engine (since we know PS3 will be in the picture for awhile still).

I could see some Crytek engineers/devs being valuable to the ICE team, though. And, I don't know if it's possible, but Street Fighter going Sony exclusive would be a pretty fucking big deal. There's numerous Capcom franchises that could use a revival with some fresh blood working on it. But, it'd have to be done with kids gloves, since you could risk losing the really good staff by forcing new people into theses teams.

Granted, Crytek/Capcom aren't in this position because these teams were delivering, but it doesn't help to buy two big names like that, and then have all the staff resigning. Capcom owns a huge library of IP though. I doubt this'll happen, but it's interesting to think about.

Not only SF, but can you imagine Monster Hunter exclusive to Sony platforms?  Not only is that a win, but a huge blow to Nintendo as well.
