If SQEX hated money they would listen to you.
If FFXIII didnt sell enough than a remake of VI with graphics on par of XIII isnt going to make money.
And if you need a comparison to see how well it would sell, look at FFX/X-2 HD. It wont outsell that

Sadly, that's a pretty common thing in the industry and for once not just a case of Square-Enix being Square-Enix. Video games have been treated as a stupidly disposable form of entertainment, probably even more so by the creators than by consumers.

Yes and no.  Yes before, no now.  I'm surprised that any dev would trash their PS2 assets and source code.  PS1 days?  Yeah I'd understand.  Even before, but not now.

Seems to have been a common enough attitude even then, though. And look at how Silent Hill 2 & 3 HD turned out because of it. Say what you will about Square-Enix being a bunch of no good, stupid, mobile-loving fuckfaces, but they at least made good on KH HD.

And don't forget the FFXIII Trilogy is LEGENDARY amongst the whole internets.

The FF III and IV remakes were great, I wish they did VI the same way (even though I wasn't really a fan of that game)
