I guess they allow a lot more options. Not because of more power but especially because of way more ram available to devs.
My guess is the transfer is designed to be "once". You don't lose your "progress" from 360 but you can't use your save from Xbone on 360. It is meant to be done once and then you are to continue on the superior version (whatever this will mean in the end).
