Forums - Gaming - Will Project Cars be the first racing sim to get motion controls right?

I think the XB1 controller is capable of motion controls. it has these lights on it that Kinect can see--almost like the Eyetoy and Move working together.

I wondered about that. Would be cool if Forza 5's rumble features were in a motion controlled Project Cars experience.

Haven't played Forza 5 much, do you know if makes any use of the kinect? Someone earlier in this thread mentioned Forza 4 did.

I don't know about Kinect funtions in Forza 5. Aside from Forza Horizon, I avoid the series like the plague.  Not much of a sim racer fan.  I may buy the Wii U version of Project CARS, though.

There is no realism with motion controls with a racing simulator. Motion controls suppose to make things more realistic. Nothing is holding a invisible steering wheel. I don't think that its a good alternative. Project Morpheus would be used to look around and you use standard controls in my view. There will be steering wheels for the XB1 and PS4 at some point.

Reading the thread title, Forza 4 has that title.

The general iffy-ness of Kinect's precision performance make me think otherwise...

but I haven't played Forza 4 so what do I know.

What Kinect gameplay would lack is some of the tactile feeling of steering the vehicle

While not the preferred way to drive, it still counts as the 1st sim to utilize it.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Technically, I think there's some arcade racing sims that would qualify as the first to get motion controls right, if you count arcade racers with steering wheels as motion controls. That said, Project Cars is the first racing sim to interest me in a long, long time. If it has great motion controls, I'll definitely try them.

Let me start by saying that this is is blatantly false; "Let me start by saying the only racing games to have critical sales success and good overall reception have been kart games.".

http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation/need-for-speed-iii-hot-pursuit  3.1 million sold

How can you make the above statement? What exactly is your measure for sales success and good overall reception? For the record; the GT series is more highly reviewed on average than MK. I'm rorry, I just got so hung up on that opening line, it's grossly out place. I love me some Mario Kart (MK 64 is my fav to this day) but what you're saying makes no sense at all.

As for the motion control part; I don't really care for motion controls in racing, steering wheels are the way to go and I don't understand why anyone would think motion controls to be even an alternative in comparison. That said; Project Cars looks (and sounds) amazing, I hope Polyphony Digital are taking notes on the sound design and the addition of actual, physical twitch in the steering on different surfaces rather than one smooth, uniterrupted motion.

With pure kinect like motion controls I agree.

I'm referring to motion controls of the controllers.

In the case of the WiiU gamepad, it's large enough to simulate the feeling of having your hands behind the wheel. For other controllers, I think the controllers are too small IMO. Your wrists are not far enough apart to trick your brain in some way into thinking you're holding a steering wheel -- though the DS4 feels solid enough to do just about anything if you ask me.

For VR's sake, traditional analog stick controls might tricky (since the controller is out of your peripheral vison) and having the sensation of a steering wheel in your hands is more immersive. However, DS4 motion control may offer a suitable substitute for those who don't have a full racing wheel in their budget.

Sure, but we're talking about the first racing sim that really makes motion controls work as a comparable alternative to full racing wheels or traditional controller.

Updated the OP for clarity's sake. I meant to say

I think others caught that I meant that in the OP, but thanks to your feedback I made this change so no one else will be confused.
