Forums - Gaming - All Day 1 DLC is a BIG F*** You To Us Gamers, Agree or Disagree? (Releasing A Game Thats Incomplete for Extra $$)

I would rather have dlc when im playing through the game the first time, so I actually like day 1 dlc. I dont think most people understand that dlc is typically handled by a different team then the team making the main game. Dlc is planned in advance in the planning stages of the game. Sometimes the dlc team is able to get content done before the game releases and so we get day 1 dlc. Just because the content is available day 1 doesnt mean it was or should be part of the main game. Would you rather they just delay the content so you have to wait until you are done playing the game before it is available?

Elaborate on what part? Cases of on-disc DLC or cases of Day 1 DLC that isn't terrible?

sry,i meant can you name a couple of gamesthat afen disc dlc and i ask if MH4G is one of those examples!

Here you go.

WTF??? Really, no wonder you hate it. They are charging u extra to play wat you already bought O.o

Everyone agrees with this at this point.

I don't have a problem with it. More than that, the "we're entitled to anything the developer makes extra for free" line of thinking doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Most DLC, Day One or otherwise, is content that would never have seen the light of day if not for the DLC approach. It's usually either completely new or content that was cut out in pre-production because it did not fit within the narrative. Most of the time, it's made by a separate team, sometimes by a separate studio.

If the developer creates something that would not have existed otherwise, we're not entitled to it simply because it was finished before the main game was released.

Agreed

Microtransactions and on disc DLC is pure badness, but I can see Day 1 DLC being ok in some cases. In general, DLC is fine as long as they finish making the game 100% before starting on any DLC, and it's also a good move to make some of it free.

disagree.

define what a "complete" game is please.

Anyone else remember playing games to unlock bonus content??
Isnt paying for it just so much more fun though??
-_-
And this is why DLC is wrong

The only time I feel its bad is the same with all DLC. When its clearly part of the original game and you are basically receiving a game that is less than previous iteration in the series.

MG is the perfect example of how to do it right. You first build the same game (content wise) that you've always provided. Then you work on purely extra content to provide at a reasonable price.

You're getting more, not less.

COD/BF are example of crap. They take out guns and other items that were normally part of the regular rank up system. But now you pay extra to get it. Kinda like micro-transactions.
