Forums - Gaming - Titanfall exclusivity proved to be (quite) pointless

I don't know why people keep saying it was an exclusive. It came out on PC and 360 as well. That's two completely different platforms/generations. Yeah it would be suprising if Titanfall was actually an XB1 exclusive and didn't manage to sell consoles.  However it's not an exclusive, it gave absolutly no reason for users to buy an XB1 especially since they could get it with pretty much the same quality on 360 or with better quality on PC.

People like to forget it took COD 3 tries in the 7th gen before it hit it big. Titanfall is purely MP based.....it boggles my mind what Titanfall 2 will sell with a full campaign and expanded MP features.

- Will be the best selling X1 game so far, much better then ANY release at this early in a console lifecycle in any generation (aside from Wii Sports lol).

- Drove up Gold subscriptions
- Increased X1 weekly sales by 20k average
- This is a 3rd party multiplat and it behaved like a exclusive. Trumped Infamous numbers, a 1st party game.
- Gives 360 a shot in the arm and IMO makes its 2014 lineup better then whatever PS3 has this year.

Come at me bros.

It was that or let the game die, what would you prefer?

Really? Did you put some thinking before u posted that?

You think that EA, spending lots of time and effort to hire all those guys who left Infinity Ward to form a new studo called Respawn wouldn't be funding the game?

So you think they formed Respawn just so they can pick their nose and drink coffee all day?

Considering Infamous is currenly outselling titanfall it's not true that it "trumped" infamous's numbers. They did have a good lead tho but it won't last.

Fact is it's being outsold by infamous and its on 3 platforms. That's not something to gloat about.

You are right tho it will be a great game once they get their shit together and produce a game worth playing instead of just a few repetitive multiplayer maps with audio logs thrown in.

Well isn't this funny considering the very website you are posting from. Why didn't you send me a link of vgchartz estimates and sales of Titanfall and Infamous? What possible reason prevented you from using resources on the very site you post? I would reeeeeeaaaaallllly like to know ;)

You may be new to this sites beautiful resources, allow me to display:

http://www.vgchartz.com/game/71541/infamous-second-son/

http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=titanfall

Whoa......that really contradicts your point of view. Maybe you should leave vgchartz lest you be a obvious hypocrite.

"produce a game worth playing" - Higher sales and meta then infamous.......so basically you are implying that Infamous is even less of a game worth playing. Your words, not mine.

Hopefully not from Alamogordo...

Well people expected something new, instead it just ended up as CoD with mechs, high jumps and bots.

That is new for a competitive FPS. Try harder.

I'm confused. I thought new things were, you know...."new". Not 3 years old

Don't wanna be that guy....well maybe i do. But KZ MP isn't exactly what FPS nuts would call a 1st class experience. Yes I am sure in strictly PS fan circles KZ MP is pretty nice and yes, I am aware Halo has jetpacks and mech combat as well. But Titanfall is like COD in that it is very fast and twitch based FPS, a different breed then Halo or KZ. It integrates them while maintaining that fast paced feeling. That and the parkour is something new and fresh.

Moving the goalpost. You said mechs, jetpacks and bots were new to competitive FPS. Now, because it actually isn't new to competitive FPS, you can't just say "oh, well, it was in KZ and Halo, but it hasn't been added to a CoD experience so that  trumps what I said just a sentence prior".

And you're even wrong saying that it's "new and fresh" because it's fast and twitch based. Unreal Tournament 3 was fast and twitchy, had hoverboards (for a more parkour approach to movement), vehicle combat, Darkwalker combat (equivalent to mech combat in that game), playing with bots and the kicker: it doesn't have a "real campaign" either, just a series of multiplayer matches. And that game came out in 2007.

No matter how you slice it, the things that make TF "innovative".....don't. And all three of these games sitting around the same metacritic score would beg to differ in what is a "1st class experience".

Look, I'm not saying TF is a bad game. Just pointing out that the things that are being lauded as "new" just aren't new.

Well it's innovative and fresh for most of the gaming market.

It's reviews and gamers reception speak for it.

There is nothing new or innovative in Titanfall... it mix good and old ideias very well.

Just seems kinda odd that the game seemingly has no basis to stand on for all this hype and KZ3 should by now be heralded as the best thing to happen to FPS. Granted you made a good case that they aren't "new" but they are certainly done in a fresh perspective, and certainly are arguably done better then predessors.
