I think 4th gen was leaps and bounds better than 5th gen. I imagine most people will vote based on their age and what they grew up with.

5th, N64 and PS1 together was just too strong.
Banjo, Spyro, MK64, Super Mario 64, FFVII-FFIX, C&C on consoles, Twisted Metal, Digimon World, Gran Turismo, Tekken 2, Zelda OoT, SSB, Goldeneye, Conker
Many genre defining games that I could still enjoy today.
Most 5th gen games have not aged well; controls, camera, and framerate are often very awkward.
The 4th gen, by comparison, holds up better.

Actually I think it was sixth gen that nailed in the coffin, for ex. soul calibur for dreamcast, internet which arcades really didn't have.

They obviously hold up well enough to become my favourite games of all time, playing them 15 years after they released.
