Since when is around 300K high sales.
Through VGChartz numbers as a point of reference.
Total MLB 2K13 sales = 0.45 m
Total MLB 13: The Show sales = 0.69 m
Estimated MLB fanbase = 1.14 m
Because MLB XX: The Show series is now the only MLB game out there, Sony basically has a monopoly on the fanbase.

That doesn't gurantee more sales Madden has a monopoly on the NFL but its sales didn't dramatically increase in the first year it happened with Madden O6.

The sales increased nontheless. It guarantees more sales because The Show now has no competitors. If MLB fans want to buy an MLB game, their only choice is The Show. Common sense.
Europe won't buy The Show for obvious reasons. However, that reason actually weakens your argument even further. Virtually 100% of the sales will be in the US. That 300k sales (and I say it'll sell much more than that) is actually significant because they're all in one country rather than being spread out across mulitple countries. As a result, it'll help the PS4 quite a bit in the US because the X1 will not have any new games coming out in the beginning of May.
fireburn95 said: Its gonna sell a bunch more, at least this year. They have five major pushes, and fairly evenly spread out. Each one of those are system sellers. Huge MLB fanbase, most of which will want to pick up ps4 for it. Watchdogs garnered good press, good pre orders. The last of us, will sell a bunch of ps4's, no reason needed. Destiny, PS4's first BIG shooter and Order, will get a likely holiday push by sony. Now two of those games are on xbox one as well, but Sony has exclusive rights to Hard bundles on Watchdogs and Destiny. Hard bundles do work, as it was what broke the xbox 360's streak in npd hardware results when gta v ps3 bundle was released. Now why do I say vs xbox one. Halo can turn the tide, but it is heavily rumoured, and makes sense, that halo is releasing in 2015. Up until then, the only major releases which are system sellers are watchdogs (advantage ps4), Project Spark (Looks cool actually), Destiny(slight advantage to ps4), Assassins creed unity(Usually partners up with sony), Sunset overdrive (MS big holiday game) , The division(Advantage xbox) and Batman Arkham knights(usually partners up with sony w/ exclusive content and bundles) and quantum break(only xbox game im excited about). From xbox's list, the differentiators are Project spark, sunset overdrive, the division and quantum break. 3 of which are releasing late in the year, 2 of which fit the niche-style gameplay. So this looks to be a slow year for xbox compared to ps4, so that may explain the price cut (MotherFudging £80 price cut in uk) Wouldn't be a bad time to announce halo anniversary 2? |
fireburn, you forgot Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. It's going to be out on the PS4 in just 2 days.
I highly doubt it will sell much more then 300K the franchise has never come close to selling half as much as Madden on any single console and Madden 25 only sold 600K on the PS4.

MLB 13: The Show sold 0.69 million total and that was when it was competing against MLB 2K13. Your argument is invalid.
Just because you highly doubt it will happen doesn't mean it will come true, especially when you have given zero legitimate reasons.

Don't delay the thread. It's about MLB |
Oh, my bad :P
In all seriousness, it's really silly how much of the thread is a debate on a popularity of a sport.

It sold that much on a system that sold over 70 million units by the time it was released the PS4 is nowhere close to that.

MLB 12: The Show sold over 1 million total and that was when the PS3 userbase was smaller. MLB 13: The Show sales dipped because 12 and 13 were really similar. It was not as much of an improvement as from 11 to 12. The dip in sales could have also been attributed to generation fatigue. Remember, MLB 13: The Show came out after the announcement for the PS4. Argument invalid again.
