Honestly, I'd need more autonomy from Nintendo of Japan, I think it is clear that they are calling all the shots in NoA these days and the brand is suffering for it.

The few games that probably could draw decent sales if promoted are sent out into the cold with little more then a Nintendo Direct as advertisement (shout out to Wonderful 101 and Wii Fit U) and in general the focus of the company has gotten less bold and willing to take chances despite the fact that in the age of digital distribution we find ourselves in Nintendo and most developers have the luxury to do so if they don't try to be graphical powerhouses with each release. Nintendo of America once had enough control they could commission their own games (mostly sports games) but now it looks more like a shell of itself.

It really doesn't make any sense (to me), why Ninty would rather cater to 128 mil Japanese audience, instead of the 1.2 billion+ NA&Euro market.

Well, they are a Japanese company and struck gold aiming at the Japanese market since the DS and Wii a few times with games like Brain Training, Nintendogs and Animal Crossing. But really outside of the handheld market the console market has gone more toward the Western gamer and development wise more toward PC style gaming with the rise of FPS (ironically which Nintendo + RARE helped perfect on consoles with Goldeneye 007) and more sandbox and RPG type games. The Japanese console market has shrunk and I can see why Nintendo would want to secure a win in their own homeland, the problem is that what works for Japanese audiences or developers doesn't always transfer to Western ones and Nintendo's compact but efficient system is now suffering.
