Forums - Gaming - Why isn't the WiiU part of the next-gen console wars?

Because of specs and bashing of internet.
But Wii U is next gen, generations are determinant on when are they released, not on what specs they have.

True we are calling Wii U 8th gen because of it's release timing, but when we say "next-gen" it means advanced from the current gen.  Wii U is 8th gen in label only.

The WiiU isnt going to be to many peoples main system, for example i have the optiont o buy Watchdogs on my ps4 or WiiU well ill tell you this i wont get it for the Wiiu, its not that the WiiU is a bad system its just i like the ps4 more for mainstream titles, i bought the WiiU for Nintendos games and thats all ill own on it.  Thats the perception problem Nintendo has right now.  Until they decided to try and compete on the same field as Sony and MS or do something better then them they wont ever be considered a main system for core gamers, and its obvious that the casuals havent bought into the WiiU like they did the Wii.  Nintendo needs to try and make a system as powerful as sony and MS system, and they need to have the 3rd party support for that system.  right now they just dont have either of those things.  with that said I LOVE PIKMIN 3  i dislike NSMBu  3dworld is fun as hell though.

GC had those things and it still got stomped. But to be fair it didnt do that much worse than Xbox, but IMHO it had no buisness losing to them anyway.

the gamecube looked like a fisher price toy with that purple color and also it had its own issues, couldnt play dvds which the competitors could do and it came out later then the ps2 which was established at that point. i did like the gamecube hell i still have my fisherprice cube in my attic somewhere.

i like it too, but can you honestly say it would have done much better if it didnt look like that? I mean it wasnt like it ONLY came in purple and it didnt have DVD player but was that a big deal? Wouldnt it being cheaper than PS2 have offset that?

back then not having a dvd player was a big deal, remember back then dvd players were still over 100$ there wasnt a netflix or streaming service, so not having one meant you had to get one, on top of that i was in college then you know how many times people made comments about me playing the Fisher price toy, and yes thats what they called it.  also Purple was the only color for a while, black didnt come out for just over a year and silver didnt come out for i think 2 years.  The color instantly threw the system to the wolves with peoples perception.  and yes the purple color did resemple some fisher price toys that were out at the time.  Just look at the controller if you handed that to a kid they would think its a toy purple with relaly bright green and red buttons on its face and a bright yellow right stick it doesnt look like a gameing controller it looks like a damn toy for 5 and under....choking hazard with the cord be carefull warning should have been included on the bottom of it.

well going by your definition of "advanced from current gen"  WiiU is 8th gen as its advanced from its 7th gen Wii....Logic i know it hurts the brain cells

So The Big Bang Theory and South Park did their own versions of the console wars pitting Sony and Microsoft against each other. Though the WiiU was missing from the attractions. Now this is a sign of a bigger problem, that the WiiU isn't seen by many as a next gen console. I personally think it is a next gen console but public perception disagrees with me. Of course what does it matter if the WiiU wasn't on The Big Bang Theory? Who cares? Well it's free advertising. The Big Bang Theory is one of the most popular shows on television nearing 20m viewers an episode. Essentially, Sony and Microsoft just got a free 30 minute advertisement on one of the biggest shows on TV. That's a huge missed opportunity for Nintendo. Nintendo needs to make themselves seen as a direct competitor to Sony and Microsoft or else the public will never take them seriously.

I own a Wii U and I do not consider it truly "next gen" it falls somewhere between a PS3 and PS4 just like a Wii fell somewhere between a PS2 and a PS3

Generations are not about power, they are about time.

Ok? I said "I consider" I can consider it to be whatever I want. I could consider it a door stopper or the best gaming machine ever created
