Forums - Sony - Sony can still salvage the Vita in the west...and here's how

lol, with sales like 10K/month in US, it's dead...

Unfortunately, it's just too late to rescue the Vita at this point in the West. It's selling next to nothing in America (which can be seen in NPD), and nothing, be it a price cut, advertising, games etc. can change the public perception about the system there. It's similar in Europe as well, though maybe not quite as bad.

The Vita will have some great games; I love my Vita; but expecting it to be a massive success (or even a moderate one) now it being somewhat optimistic. I'm fine enjoying the games on the system and not concerning about the sales.

I disagree on the notion of games, I think a stronger library of software would quaduple its sales in NA and double them in the EU. Sony should be happy the Vita is selling at its current rate in the west considering its last relevant exclusive was in november 2013. Its software over here is the worst of any system in recent memory, the next biggest system seller is a 2 year old port in may. If it had stronger software it would not be selling 2K in NA and would not be below 10k in europe.

I still think software could make a nice difference but theres very little hope on the horizon other than Minecraft which may be popular amongst a younger, slightly more casual audience and the few japanese titles which may actually appeal to more then just a tiny niche (Freedom wars, over my dead body 2).

Re-design the vita so that micro-SD cards work with it (micro-sd cards are more than twice as cheap as sony's shit)
Have 4 and 8gb internal memory sku's
Get the play store on the device, whilst including a re-desined OS, the current one is fine, but it could be better.
Do some easy ports from the ps3 library (Puppeteer, GT6 but only the premium cars, and don't call it GT6, LBP Karting)
Set up a couple of studios that dedicate themselves to making portable titles
Cut the price to $150 and equivalent world wide.
Chuck some money at Rockstar for PSV GTA
Chuck some money at Square for a Kingdom Hearts game and Type-0 port
Chuck some money at Capcom for a couple of monster hunter games
Chuck some money at Activision and Ubisoft again for another COD and AC, both will become million sellers this year, can't imagine it would take much persuading to get both companies to create for the Vita again.
Get SCE Japan making a Ape Escape Vita, something I think would work well on the handheld, especially now that there's due analogue sticks
Create some limited bundles with the ps4 + ps3 (say Assassins creed 4+Liberations, PS4, PSV and a year of PS+ at $550)

Finaly the most important thing of all is some advertising, I mean FFS you had two first party games out this past year that did well critically and you didn't advertise them for shit, likewise with LBP Vita when that came out, it's now at nearly 700k thanks to fantastic legs due to good word of mouth. If it was given a good advertising campaign we'd perhaps see the Vita a couple hundred k further along and LBP Vita nearer 1million by now.

As much as everything else would help. This is perhaps the most disappointing aspect to Vita owners. The traditional "handheld" studios either got shut down (Bigbig) when Vita first launched, or after doing an initial Vita title, or got reprioritised to PS4 duty. (Bend and although independent, Ready at Dawn).

I hope E3 shows a reversal, but I don't think it will. But yeah, other that Japan Studio and their partners, I can't think of anything Sony themselves are currently developing for Vita.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

lol, this thing is dead...

Unfortunately, I do not see much hope for the Vita. It is going to be relegated as the PS4 remote play device. There has been no effort put forth by Sony in developing games for it. I would be very happy at this point if I could use it with PS Now and stream PS3 games to it.

Well Vita's about a year older than Wii U, and has sold 2 million more than Wii U. This time next year, Wii U will be past 8.2 million, and if Wii U can't be saved anywhere, then I don't think Vita will be with even less marketing and big games.

It pains me to see Vita doing so poorly when I enjoy mine so much. Anyone with a PS4 really should have one. There are some great games too!

I also remote play FFXIV. I can't describe the coolness of playing in a hotel room while traveling. Love love love it.

that is the problem: Vita is just a expensive controller for PS4. Nothing more

Doing some of these things could potentially boost Vita sales, but would it be worth while? I doubt it.

Its over, the Vita is just a niche platform and not worth investing much money in.

The best thing Sony can do to boost the userbase is bring over the Vita TV.

The Vita is on life support. I don't see Sony turning the tide with the Vita. Sony should drop out of the handheld space considering what happen to the PSP Go.
