Forums - Sony - Sony can still salvage the Vita in the west...and here's how

Gotta just Advertise it and release games. Lowering the price of the actual console could help, but it is "optional" in this case as actually advertising and releasing games is what would truly make it sell.

I think at 149 with genuine hit games like GTA and Minecraft could see it salvaged in both western regions. I dont see it happening though.

Sony wont drop the price even though back in January 2012 the 3G Vita 1000 only cost them 159 for materials. They should be able to hit that price point profitably after 2 years and a hardware revision that includes no OLED and no 3G chip.

Sony doesn't really want to invest in software for the Vita. Even if it's all gonna be ports wouldn't GT and GTA be more worthwhile endeavors than BL2?

Memory card prices could be mitigated by not charging so much for the 8GB game carts. Games can be up to 5-6GB and have the rest for updates, patches and saves.

Almost all the issues with the system can be pretty easily solved. Sony just doesn't feel it's worth a genuine effort.

Agreed. With what King said, and same with his Wii U analysis.

Although, if they turn it around in the west, they deserve a medal.

Have they done any bundling with PS4? I'm thinking this is their last move.

They could focus on their smartphones and let the Vita be their last dedicated handheld. No use in trying to beat Nintendo in the handheld market, the domination is absolute.

Needless to say the Vita is still a good console and you shouldn't let sales concern you. There are lots of great games to play like: Persona 4 Golden and Gravity Rash, and

vita has no gaems

If Vita is to stand any chance in the west it needs the following:

  • Cost no more than $149.99 w/ 1-month PS Plus & 4GB memory card. This allows you to download any title available through the service.
  • Software must launch no more than $34.99 @ retail. No more than $29.99 @ digital.

Memory Cards must drop in price significantly and prices need to be:

  • 8GB = $15
  • 16GB = $25
  • 32GB = $40

This gives the impression of value when you buy larger sizes.

Above all else they also need to invest more in 1st and 3rd party software. Won't need to go too big time though since it will always get all PS4 titles via remote play and with a much cheaper price it will look attractive in that regard.

$200 for a Vita, $40 for 16GB or $80 for 32B along with $40-$50 for software is STUPID. Way way way way WAY too expensive for what it is.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Re-design the vita so that micro-SD cards work with it (micro-sd cards are more than twice as cheap as sony's shit)
Have 4 and 8gb internal memory sku's
Get the play store on the device, whilst including a re-desined OS, the current one is fine, but it could be better.
Do some easy ports from the ps3 library (Puppeteer, GT6 but only the premium cars, and don't call it GT6, LBP Karting)
Set up a couple of studios that dedicate themselves to making portable titles
Cut the price to $150 and equivalent world wide.
Chuck some money at Rockstar for PSV GTA
Chuck some money at Square for a Kingdom Hearts game and Type-0 port
Chuck some money at Capcom for a couple of monster hunter games
Chuck some money at Activision and Ubisoft again for another COD and AC, both will become million sellers this year, can't imagine it would take much persuading to get both companies to create for the Vita again.
Get SCE Japan making a Ape Escape Vita, something I think would work well on the handheld, especially now that there's due analogue sticks
Create some limited bundles with the ps4 + ps3 (say Assassins creed 4+Liberations, PS4, PSV and a year of PS+ at $550)

Finaly the most important thing of all is some advertising, I mean FFS you had two first party games out this past year that did well critically and you didn't advertise them for shit, likewise with LBP Vita when that came out, it's now at nearly 700k thanks to fantastic legs due to good word of mouth. If it was given a good advertising campaign we'd perhaps see the Vita a couple hundred k further along and LBP Vita nearer 1million by now.

If remote play didn't save it nothing will

SCEA and SCEE are really inept at advertising the Vita. They really to increase the advertising and advertise on a consistent basis.
