Kinect 2 was pretty bold. They took a pretty big risk investing so much money into the device, making it essential with the Xbox One and as a consquence pricing it $100 over it's rival.

But we're already seeing the price drop to PS4 levels?

Baby steps Joe, baby steps. Being bold is not an easy thing to do.

What a bold thread

You seeing the bold font too? What's up with that?

The PS3 wasn't a bold move. It was a stupid move! There was no risk or genious strategy behind it. It was plain and simple, a stupid decision.

That being said, this thread was obviously created by Joe with the purpose of showing is magic skillz. I wonder how he does it.

Nintendo entering the American gaming market with the NES when gaming had a very bad reputation

MS entering a home console market that had already 3 well-established companies

DS with two screens

Wii with motion controls and weaker hardware

Ok, maybe not that bold. Nintendo has their franchises as safety net and MS didn't risk to fail as a company.

Steam? Yeah, Steam.

EDIT: Even more so, Steam Machines.

I consider axing the GameBoy line in favor of DS to be pretty bold. Wii was bold, too, if we only focus on the controls and not the hardware itself.

Also the PS3's Blu-ray drive was bold, even though it hasn't taken over for DVD yet...

8 years later and it still hasn't, haha.

It's a shame though, I'm an avid classic film fan and the market for BD is still not huge enough to remaster many movies. Instead we're stuck with old bad DVD copies.

Yep.

Sega taking on, and taking majority market share, from Nintendo.

Without question the boldest move in years was the XB1 announcement last year- Kinect, DRM, Sports, TV etc. I don t think any console has tried to do more and change more than the XB1 announcement

You DID say BOLDEST-

The XB1 announcement last year was also the most misguided and frankly dumbest move in gaming too- it was as if everyone paying attention could see how much a mistake MSFT was making (including many at MSFT) but for some unknown reason they tried to take that path and I have to believe that decision was made by a few execs at MSFT and those execs are no longer there
