Forums - Nintendo - What is the Appeal to Super Smash Bros??

Coming from someone who usually leans towards Sony: Super Smash Bros. is the ONLY good fighting game.

-The characters you can choose from are actually different unlike other fighting games where they just have different sword and muscle skins.
-The stages are creative and interactive instead of just being a bunch of blank rooms like in other games.
-The way you "KO" people is way more interesting than a health bar. Anyone can come back from a beating and there is real strategy to trying to get someone off the edge...

...what in the world was your friend doing for years?

Anyways, it's a fighter that favors mobility and spacing over complex combos. There's plenty of room for development on the competitive side of things.

Also, it's just plain fun to play just for the heck of it. If you don't enjoy Smash Bros, then you don't know how to have fun.

It is a very unique fighting game with the percentage system over life bars and winning via ring outs. Also it is tons of fun with four people with all the chaos. Add in great diversity of levels and characters and have a series I looking forward to each installment.

It's probably the most entertaining local multiplayer series in existence - and I've played a lot of local multiplayer.

there's a reason why mariokart+ssb is very popular :)

He's just jealy that if Microsoft had a SSB style game, there would only be 6 characters and 4 of them would be from FPSs.

This is the big one that i've honestly wondered why more fighting games never went for that. Static environments bore the piss out of me and are part of the reason why no other fighter has ever really piqued my interest beyond casual curiosity (aside from the games following in Smash's footsteps, like TMNT: Smash Up, or PS All Stars)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

All 3 of your points are solid facts. Especially the first one as how the gameplay works is perfect. I really think SSB despite it representing nintendo history/franchise/etc is one of the only games (others like MK) that bring all gamers together as can agree its a game we all can play without having fan wars. (well not counting gamers who no matter wat wont play a nintendo ip cuz they hate them or vise a versa with nintendo fans hating on sony lol).

All SSB needs is Online (that works), and its a rap! If you dont like SSB, its either cuz you dont like fighters or simply dont like nintendo imo :-/

Any game can be made easy, frivolous, or even seem like it has bad controls if you turn it into a bashing 'A' fest.

But, I'll cut you some slack. Just for you, Toastboy.
