I have tried Super Smash Bros on the Wii, I have tried the game on the GaneCube, I hate the series with a passion.

I beat my friend on my first try, even though he played the game for years, spamming the A button. The controls are not good at all.

This game has an identity crisis, Smash bros is half platformer and half fighter.

This series is unpolished, you can walk through walls and there are frame rate issues when a bunch of things are on screen. I can never locate my character, it starts flying around for no reason.

I get that Nintendo wants to have a game that features all their mascots but how about having the characters in a place that makes sense! Why not an adventure game where you play as mario and you use a boon to find link and you work with him to faint the pokemon trainer to save peach. Or something like that.

This game gets me angry why is it such a top seller?? What am I missing?

Well you're friend is a terrible player then or you're definition of spamming is more elaborate than most since its almost impossible to kill with just hitting the a button, you just do infinite combos

Also, there's stuff like this is high level play

Was what I was gonna say, spamming doesn't get you anywhere in SSB.

I am not a fan of Nintendo by any means but SSB is just simply fun. Nothing beats having 4 people got at it with some of the most recognizable faces of gaming.

To make the answer very simple, its fun.

The mix of platforming and fighting is the best part!

Also it's not as competitive and balanced as most fighters, but still the better player usually wins. If you beat your friend then you probably have natural talent ;)

It's probably the most entertaining local multiplayer series in existence - and I've played a lot of local multiplayer.
