Nintendo also says usb flash drives won't work but I used one for quite a while with no problems. I bought a 2Tb hdd for 69.99 brand new. Toshiba. It works just fine with the wii u also.  I think getting an HDD will be cheaper for you

Without revealing too much private info I'm trying to go bare minimum due to medical bills from cancer.

Thank you for finding this for me.  As I said to Cannon I'm just trying to go bare minimum due to medical bills.

Out of curiosity I wanted to break down the price difference. (note, I haven't filled up my 32GB deluxe unit yet)

SD Card = $20 (32GB class10)
SD/USB reader = $8

Pro: fast, reliable, self-powered, cheap, compact
Con: limited size, high cost per-GB

ext HDD = $70 (500GB ~ 1TB)

pro: reliable, very large size
con: power solution due to wiiu being usb2.0

Interesting choices. 1/2 the price for a fraction of the size but faster response. Not sure if response time will be noticeable in gameplay though. Doubt it.

Guess it just depends on your use case. I know another 32GB card or 64GB card will last me likely the life of the system so I may choose the cheap way out.

That's exactly what I'm looking for.  Cost analysis and performance analysis to help me with my limited budget.

Tip: in some countries, the diference between a sd card anda external HD is way higher.WAAAAAAY HIGHER.
