We all knew it was coming, I just didn't think it was gonna happen this early, especially when it's being sold out everywhere.

 It's just a price adjustment for Canada because of the dropping value of the USD.  Sony did this for the ps3 before Christmas, if I recall correctly.

For comparison how much is the wii and 40 gig ps3 in canada?

I thinks its more of a price parity thing then the biginning of MS's price drop. Edit: 399$ for the 40gb ps3 and 499$ for the 80gb. 199$ for a PSP bundle. Sony has had price parity at least since the 40gb launch.

This is less a price cut than a "we're finally going to stop screwing Canadians on currency exchange" admission.
