Without EA, both consoles will be selling Wii U numbers or worse [ok maybe  little better]. Especially Xbone

Well, third party is defiantly the main reason why people get Ps4 and X1 but idk how much it would help the wiiU... So, what someone should do is do something like this but for previous Nintendo platforms and see how much EA helped Nintendo in the past... If its a lot, then yea, their absence has greatly affected the wiiU sales, if not, then obviously I doubt they would help that much.

Cause unlike Sony and MS platforms where mainly Third Party sells more or equivalent than First Party in most cases, on Nintendo platforms, First Party sells more than Third party

Looking at those numbers EA can't be too happy that they didn't release Titanfall on ps4. Only madden NFL comes close in sales for some reason.

I've only bought NFS: Rivals from EA, the only franchise that still kinda interests me from them. Maybe Dragon age 3 can redeem EA.

...Here's a look at all 11 million-seller games for the PS4 and Xbone combined.

....

Looking at the disparity between PS4 and XB1 sales for EA, obviously EA understood that they made a huge mistake by favoring XB1 at launch. They are unlikley to repeat that. If not for the PS4 versions, those games would be big losers sales wise.

Playstation 5 vs XBox Series Market Share Estimates

Regional Analysis  (only MS and Sony Consoles)
Europe     => XB1 : 23-24 % vs PS4 : 76-77%
N. America => XB1 :  49-52% vs PS4 : 48-51%

It is more having them is the standard and not is a big loss. I know many here may not care about FIFA, but hard for me to imagine going a generation without buying at least one entry in the series.

I think the same way. It a standard support to have, and the success is coming from other factors (hype, price, hardware, etc.).

I thought this was another toastboy thread.

Funnily enough I haven't bought many EA game on consoles in two generations. Dead Space 2 was the only one on consoles and that was about €5 second hand. Then a few on PC for even less than that.

Forget the irrational hate they get on here. 3rd parties drive console sales, if some one like Ea drops support the console dies. Happened to DC and is happening to U.

They release a lot of games that sale a hell of a lot, with out them droughts would be brutal.

Every gen is all about third-parties, even NES and SNES were beneficed by them.

What do you think? Has the general success of the PS4 and Xbox One been largely due to EA's strong support of these platforms? And if so, can the argument be made that 3rd party publishers have the power to choose which hardware succeeds?

That's too simplified, I think.  It's not like support is decided in an underworld meeting between kingpins or by the toss of a die.  That's not giving credit to the console manufacturers who go out and forge strong partnerships with third-party companies that lead to success for both.  Pretty much anyone in business will tell you that alliances and mutually beneficial deals are very important.

Being willing and able to work with third-parties in ways that result in both sides having the chance to prosper, that's closer to the truth.
