Forums - Sony - Digital Foundry In Theory: Could The Last of Us on PS4 run at 1080p60?

It shall sell enough to justify the upgrade... but I rather have they up the graphical fidelity (1080p) with stronger effects and models (maybe use some newer techniques into it) than up to 60 fps.

1080p would be great, but 60fps isn't at all necessary for this type of game.

Rock-solid 30 fps will suffice, no need for 60 fps. Looking forward to 1080p, overall higher resolution textures and possibly other graphical enhancements. Just imagine, it will be glorious!

Waste of time and resources imo.

It will sell tons... day one for me... btw I'm sure it will be a third-party studio that will make the port like HD release (Blue Point?)... not ND themselves

Ill buy it day 1..  Again.  Propably gift my ps3 copy to my nintendo only pal in order to grease the persuasion of buying a ps3

As useless as the TR rerelease imho. Once you beat these types of games there's no reason to play through them again let alone buy them again imho.

I beat RE4 a good 7 times and that was a single player only game. Great single player games can be replayed many times. And The Last of Us has a very addictive multiplayer mode anyways.

RE4 is amazing and has a SP notnearly as linear or cutscene driven as TR/LoU. RE4 is not the type of SP game i was referring to. And i agree, the LoU MP was one if the best last gen. If i had a PS4 and they resold that, i might buy if the price was right. Or maybe not, after all the reason to jump into next gen is for new games. Only reason i would rebuy an old game is if my library was lacking.

I guess really old games could be an exception. I would rebuy SOCOM II in HD in a second.

If by not nearly as linear you mean 'completely linear' and by not cutscene driven you mean 'you get a cutscene at the end of every single linear segment' then yes, the bolded is 100% correct.

You can reduce every game to a linear description. However if you're going to tell me RE4's gameplay is as corridor, hand held the entire time only one absolute path with no variation as Last of Us, ahahaha. No point in taking anything after that seriously, toodles.

Not everyone has beat TLOU though. There's people that were X360 only last gen and just now got a PS4, I'm sure they would love to play TLOU and since they already purchased a 400$ PS4, I'm sure they don't want to buy a 200$ PS3 to play it.

Not sure why people believe 60fps isn't beneficial in such a game. It makes the experience smoother and more responsive and allows better gameplay. Surely this is exactly the type of game that will benefit. Also the point is if the ps4 version was a bit of a cheap port just re-using the graphic assets of the ps3 version then perhaps 60fps would be a easy update. I've played many a PC game at 60fps after playing the console versions at 30fps and that includes racing, fps, third person and other games and its always been a noticable improvement from memory.

Of course but I was speaking more on a personal perspective. I know there are millions of gamers who were 360 only last gen.

It will sell to some people who didn't get it on / didn't own PS3 and have already got themselves a PS4. And it will sell to some people who already have it for PS3, and completed it, who have more money than sense.

But that's not all that many people. However the cost of up-porting to PS4 will probably be not that much so it will turn a small profit even if it only sells 100-200K. So long as Naughty Dog isn't distracted from it's work on new titles/ IP I don't care if Sony does this or not. I would rather see an announcement of a TLOU sequel for PS4.

Re TR Definitive edition. I would have bought it, but TR happened to be free on PSN+ this month, and as I joined PSN+ this month it means I got TR on PS3 for free. So I will not be buying the definitive edition after all, unless I think TR is the awesomest game to be released since Valkyria Chronicles, which means I might want to play it in all its upgraded glory with Lara's new Supermodel looks; but I doubt it.

I'm betting at straight port could pretty easily.
