Forums - Gaming - 7th and 8th gen Hardware Comparison

In 2007, the PS2 outsold either the 360 or PS3. can the same be said for the PS3 or 360 against the One and PS4 in 2014?

I don't understand, how does that relate with what he's saying? That just means 7th gen is dying fast, nothing more.

talk,talk,talk...stop please and do some research. Wii U numbers are actually up from 2013 not down. If you are a real gamer you want all gaming companies to survive. If you are Fanboy you only want a certain company to survive. grow up stop posting and play games

Is this a serious reply or not? Read it over and try again

Im not sure if it is serious or not but what you said isnt necessarily wrong and you certainly didnt seem to be acting like you want nintendo to die or anything like that.

So actually by the performance of the first few months of this generation with the PS4 and Xbox One both doing better then previous consoles this generation is ahead through mid-March.

Xbox 360/PS3/Wii = 11 million consoles sold (release through mid-March)
Xbox One/PS4/Wii U = 13 million (release through mid-March)

With most reports from 2012/early 2013 saying console gaming was dead.. This is pretty big news..

Predictions on 12/01/15 - Generation 8 Totals:

PS4: 85-95m
X1: 55-65m
WiiU: 20-30m

Nintendo is struggling. This is why many nintendo fanboys suggests this gen is a failure. In reality wii fad is over. No body wants that gimmick. And PS4 and Xbox One are doing exceptionally well.

Once the Wii U starts selling much better I bet people will stop with the " 8th gen is a failure" nonsense.

Honestly Im not entirely sure why people are so insistent on trying to make 8th gen seem like a failure.  WiiU may be down but XBO and PS4 are up in the early months.

First off we are going to look at two things.  X360 had no competition and was boasting a $400 pricetag where as the Xbox One and PS4 launched together which are in direct competition yet both Xbox One and PS4 has managed to pass their predecessors thanks to a HUGE launch.

Well then you may be like well XBO was down in january to X360 and that is where the $500 pricetag along with being in direct competiion with PS4 comes in yet in February XBO was only down by 9k and IN march it appears XBO will be above or match X360 regardless of these reasons.  So XBO not only had the huge launch but it appears to be going roughly the same speed as X360 after the first holiday.

But wait there is more!  Every single launch whether it be X360, PS3, or the wii all had exceptionally better 2nd holidays.  For example Wii sold over 4m in december of 2007.  Every console sold nearly double their 2nd holiday. If this happens again in the 8th gen there will be monster holidays this year for PS4 and XBO.

Im not going to speak much about the PS4 as we all know it is a monster at this very moment so this leaves the WiiU.  And yes it is struggling but as for people saying 8th gen as a whole is?  That appears to be wrong thus far with PS4 and XBO both outselling their predecessors in the early months.

March 2013 - 220,850

This. Even counting just two weeks in March 2014 and despite Wii U selling quite a lot less than Wii, 8th gen home consoles have already sold more than 2M more than 7th gen in their first 6 months overall, and in the next two weeks the gap will grow further. And if Mario Kart will help Wii U to pull itself together, 8th gen would earn even more chances to become one of the biggest gens ever (even without it recovering, it could easily become the third ever for home consoles and the second ever for portables despite low PSV sales and 3DS selling less than DS).

Ok, i did.  I changed it from 8th and 7th gen Hardware comparisons to 7th and 8th gen Hardware  Comparisons.  I hope this meets your satisfactions :D

I think people are just way more keen on getting a console at launch then they used to
-especially since this last generation went for so long
and
-the record-long 9 month pre-order window for the PS4 and X1. Next-gen has pretty much been on sale for well over a year already. MS and Sony are just playing games with the supply so they don't appear to have a hardware bust similar to what WiiU had in spring/summer of 2013.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
