Forums - Gaming - Which games disappointed you the most?

GTA V because it was ridiculously overhyped. I enjoyed GTA IV more even though it had far less in it

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Metal Gear Solid 4

This game practically killed my interest in the series. Hell, I'm not that excited for MGSV as I should be because of this game. It looks pretty good, but screw this game!

The story and dialogue were terrible, with nanomahcines being the answer to everything and had lots of hollywood cheesy scenes. B&B Corps had no character development, and their boss fights didn't live up to the standards of the previous games. Way too many lengthy cutscenes especially in the last two chapters; I know MGS is heavy on cutscenes, but the games had maybe like a 50-50 or 60-40 cutscene to gameplay ratio. MGS4 had like 70-30. Serious!

As for the gameplay, it was rarely a stealth game. You could side with one faction and dash through half the chapters without drawing any alerts because you don't pose a threat to that faction. You could buy ammo & guns by pressing start, so there's no motivation for exploring and conserving ammo. There was a lack in mission variety as most of them was just "go to this destination," and you didn't even have to bother searching for your goal since you could just press start and look where it was. It also lacked easter eggs, something I loved about the series.

Smash Bros. Brawl. God the online was terrible and subspace emmisary was a waste of time. Really their was no need to have online THAT bad in this day and age...which brings me too...

Tekken 6 which is funny because it has the opposite problem as Brawl. The online is great and i still play to this day, but everything else is meh. I dont know why Namco seems to want to cram a beat em up in my fighting games and this was the biggest offender becasue they made it so you had to play it to unlock anything. Just make a Tekken beat em up spin off, hell i would buy that.

King of Fighters 12, HUGE fan of the series. I didnt want to believe the reviews but in hindsight they were being generous. Terrible roster, horrible online almost as bad as Brawl. terrible character redesigns, thank god they made 13 much better.

Xenoblade this game is boring maybe i need to play some more but 2 hours in and im so bored.

Zelda SS same problem although i got further but this is easily the most boring Zelda ive ever played and that includes the portables.

Final Fantasy 13 if only the story didnt suck so bad

Soul Calibur 5 more of an honorable mention because honestly? it looked like it wasnt gonna be great but it didnt even reach my lowered expectations.

Assassin's Creed 3, not a bad game at all, but it wasnt as good as i hoped it would be.

there is more cant think of it now

Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars

Crash Nitro Kart

Final Fantasy X

Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly

SSX: On Tour

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

WipEout Fusion

What do all of them have in common?

Sequels to games I absolutely adored (Tiberian Sun; Crash Team Racing; Final Fantasy IX; Year of the Dragon; SSX 3; Melee & Wip3out respectively).

And all of them nowhere near as good as the game that came before them.  Massive, massive disappointments.

- Starfox Adventures
- Resident Evil 5
- Metroid Other M
- Majora's Mask
- Wind Waker
- Mario Sunshine

WWE games last gen. WWE '12 and 13' was fun though.

1. Turok: Evolution

As a big fan of the series, I had high hopes for Evolution. But sadly, apart from a decent multiplayer mode and some interesting flying missions, the game is generic and surprisingly boring. Same goes for Turok (2008).

2. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

Dawn of Sorrow isn't a bad game by any means, but it pales in comparison to its predecessor Aria of Sorrow, my pick for best Castlevania game.

3. Assassin's Creed II

After seeing all the love for ACII from the community here, I was anxious to find out what the hype was all about. I was shocked to discover how little I enjoyed the game. It gets better toward the end game, but never truly recovers from a disastrously slow start.

4. Aliens: Colonial Marines

I love Aliens. I love four-player co-op. I don't love Colonial Marines.

5. Resident Evil 6

Resident Evil 5 wasn't the best RE game, but at least it played well. RE6 on the other hand, packed as it is with QTEs and cutscenes, feels less like a video game and more like a playable movie.

Are there any games they really disappointed you, that you thought would be a really great game but turned out to be just good, average or sucked? Perhaps not lived up to its predecessors greatness, or a new IP that you felt just didn't deliver what you had expected.

Here I will list four games that I was disappointed with.

Zelda: Twilight Princess(GC). While I did enjoy this game a lot, the whole wolf part kind of ruined the experience for me. I just didn't enjoy that part of the game at all, and it took up, more or less 50% of the game. I felt
disappointed.

Battlefield 2142(PC). For me BF2 was the best online multiplayer FPS on the PC for a very long time, it had everything and was truly a great game. Then DICE released this game and I just... felt
disappointed.

Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs(PC). The previous Amnesia and Penumbra games were so great, I truly loved those games and still play them from time to time. When AMfP was announced I felt so excieted and hoped for a truly great experience once again, but this game was just so awful and flat. I didn't even finish this game. So very very disappointed.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts(X360). Both Banjo Kazooie and Tooie delivered a great experience for me, so I had so high hopes for this game to be a great game too. When they first announced that it was not Banjo Threeie I felt a bit surprised, but still I was very excited for this to be released. And in the end I felt that this game did not deliver even the slightest bit what I had hoped for. Achievement unlocked: Disappointed gamer.

What about you?

I can understand not enjoying the wolf sections...they weren't for everyone. But they weren't even close to 50% of the game...maybe 20% at most.

Sorry...Zelda fanboy automatic defensive reaction. :p No hard feelings, I hope!

Anyway, the games that disappointed me the most:

Mario Kart: Double Dash-Mario Kart 64 remains my favorite MK game (hopefully 8 can top it!) and DD just was everything I DIDN'T want in Mario Kart.

Wave Race: Blue Storm-They took one of the best Nintendo 64 games and totally "westernized" it...losing all the Japanese charm and making a game that (to me) felt frustrating and clunky and difficult. I just couldn't get into it.

Super Mario Sunshine-Super Mario 64...classic. This game...FLUDD gimmick, dull overdone "tropical" island themed levels...just meh. I don't want to spend my time in a game cleaning up graffiti.

Basically the Gamecube was a HUGE disappointment to me...other than Melee and Paper Mario: TTYD.

Super Paper Mario-They changed the formula of two of my favorite games ever...and the Paper Mario series hasn't found its way back since.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star-Originally my MOST ANTICIPATED 3DS game by a mile...then I played it. No incentive to battle with no Exp/levelling, frustrating "thing" sticker system...so disappointing.

You are probably right because in all the dungeons and such you are still Link. :P For me it just felt too much. Also the travelling on the sea in WW felt okay the first time I played the game but the second it felt so meaningless long, so I prefer the WW HD version. It's how it should have been made from the start. Also all the mask switching and especially the "time limit" in MM bummed me out a bit. Only beat that game once. :/ I wish they would release a new version of the game(MM HD) and make the time-part different in some way. Not sure how as I don't want them to change the game too much. The mask part they should of course not change. :P

I'm also a Zelda fan by the way. Best series ever made! :D Can't wait for the next Zelda to be released for Wii U. Hopefully sooner than later.

Resident Evil 6, it's pure crap. I lost any interest for the license, and any faith for Capcom.

Quake 4
Unreal Tournament 3
Rage
Max Payne 3
