Because the majority of people didn't play games in 1080p last gen, particularly if they did most or all of their gaming on consoles. How did people ever play games on 480p or even lower.........because that's all they had.
When higher resolutions become standard then people will think how did we ever think 1080p games were beautiful.
Another day, another pointless thread.

Wait, 1080P is beautiful? It's low-end...
With a console, you are stuck with whatever the console producer/game developer gives you.
I don't fully expect the PS4 to have all it's games at 1080P by generations end. - A signficant amount of Xbox 360 and PS3 games werent even 720P.

Its not that its horrible, its more to do with paying more for less.
Lets face it if it was anything else in life you wouldn't defend it.
How many of you would buy a smaller TV for more money, because it was branded Panasonic instead of Samsung.
Now if your desperate to play titanfall or Forza then of course X1 is what you buy. But the constant downplaying of graphics is silly, if you could get an X1 with a PS4 spec and $100 cheaper, you wouldn't ask who cares about resolution.

I'm just saying console are lagging behind on Display Media (i'm not comparing it with pcs, because thta would make the whole 720-1080 argument totally retarded)
EDIT: Just saying 720 or 1080 both are the low end of the TV spectrum

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.
The true irony is some of the most vocal in downplaying graphical differences between Xbox one and ps4 were some of the most vocal with snide comments over much smaller graphical differences between ps3 and 360.
The karma happening this gen is a beautiful thing.

Yeah 4k monitors have launched, but its hardly on the same scale as HDTV, it will be gen 9 before there is any kind of penetration of 4k TV's in living rooms. At least when HDTV launched there was 1080p content in the form of Blue-ray and HDDVD, whos providing 4k content?
Right now you still need two video inputs for 4k monitors, we are years away from being main stream.

Yeah, fuck technological improvements. Mankind survived travelling by horse, living in caves and all. So let's get rid of our cars & houses, television, the internet and back to OXO-style 35x16 pixel, 1-bit graphics.
But serious: I'm really getting annoyed by these stupid "Resolution doesn't matter" threads. It feels more and more like men not getting tired of trying to convince others that "Size doesn't matter".
While these people do have a good point (on most TV screens, the difference between 1080p and 720p is neglectable), the fact that they tend to try to ridicule and downplay the matter does not make these people seem like neutral and objective. And such behaviour generally raises the question of whom they're actually trying to convince: Others? ...or themselves? And... why?!? To me personally, it feels more and like people simply trying to justify/rationalize their own video game console purchase.

And how much of there content will be 4k
I see most articles are saying "Very little at launch"
