I'm pretty sure it will end up coming on their next handheld instead. The 3DS doesn't have much time left, so it would be wiser to make it available for the launch of the next platform.

It has like a minimum of 3 years left, that's plenty of time! And of course they can also make it ready day one on the 4DS.

Around the Network

good news.
more games in the future.
maybe increase the life time of 3DS.

But they are just starting to look at it :(  So I don't think we will see it this year. If it happens, it will probably be in Q3-Q4 2015, by then Nintendo will probably have revealed their next handheld (e3 2015), at least thats if we take a look at the average gap between handhelds.

But either way, they are at least doing something about it.

A whole page full of replies somehow making this out to be bad news. Impressive.

Well, yeah, I get what you're saying, it will be a positive when/if Unity arrives for the 3DS, but we also need to be realistic about this.  He's not even confirming that they'll even work on it.  We're also talking about the oldest current gen platform and an engine that supports just about everything else, including the Vita and the unused Playstation Mobile platform.

Honestly, it reminds me of the old "people will develop for it, anyway, so it doesn't need to be easy" philosophy that has blown up for both Sony and Nintendo in the past.  If so, they're certainly right, but it's still a disservice to the consumer.

good news for 3ds-ers!
