Forums - Sony Discussion - God of War Dev Stig Asmussen Leaves Sony Santa Monica

Expected, but I am getting tired of reading an article everyday where someone leaves a studio lol. Did not seem like this a year ago.

I give it 24 hours until we hear that he's been hired by Microsoft.

Why do people overreact so much... this happens all the time.

Do you have any idea the credibility and value this guy has? apparently not. His project could have been a major AAA game. It's very bad news when that gets dropped but especially more so with a guy this talented.

And it got cancelled, for a reason

Not surprising that he didn't want to stay at SSM or they didn't want him to stay, depending on which perspective you choose you could either say that Sony just took away 4 years of his life/work or that he just burned millions of dollar and several years of time, that could've been spend working on something else, for Sony.

Their was bound to be alot of friction.

Good riddance of bad rubbish - wasted 4 years. 4 years where we should already have been playing an awesome SSM game.

I know about that, I say it for the first comment. It's a shame we never seen the new ip they were working, but still, some people overreact too much when this actually happens frequently.

Sony didn't take 4 years of his life away - he was being paid for this. Plus, if he feels that he lost something, he should only have himself to blame. In the end, Sony was at fault for supporting him for so long. They should have put a stop to this back in 2011 and not indulge an incompetent staff member.

Let's hold our horses for a second shall we?

I think Raven722 said it very well in the Playstation Nation thread so I will just quote him:

"Let's not get too bent out of shape. He became notable for taking over as director for GOW3 when Barlog left after directing it for the first 8 months. He never directed his own game and when he finally did it took four years and a ton of resources just to fail miserably. Like I said. You don't cancel a project in development for that long unless it's just a mess that Sony didn't want to take anymore chances on."
