Forums - Sony - PS4's first 720p game

There a rumor going around that planetside 2 is 720 60 fps with all the pc special sauce. The maps are huge, so its kind of expected to take a hit some where.

Theres also a rumour that it will be increased.

I think the only thing that is confirmed is that its running on the same level as 'ultra' on PC.

No, it will be1080p as sony never wants to go with 720p. PC 7850 GPU does 1080p 60FPS very well in max settings. Look at this link for the reply from a user "Aguy": http://vr-zone.com/articles/planetside-2-graphics-ps4-will-ultra-settings-pc/68003.html?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=planetside-2-graphics-ps4-will-ultra-settings-pc

I have a few things to say about this:

PS2 is easy to max out on PC, I get 1080p 60fps easily with a 7850 on ultra settings, even in some minor battles with explosions and stuff. Assuming that SOE programmers don't suck, they should have no trouble maxing out the game.

They never specified framerate or resolution. I'd guess 30 fps if they actually want the PS2 experience of hundreds of players in one battle with the crappy PS4 CPU. The bottleneck for PS2 at any intensive moment is probably the CPU, and considering that CPU isn't the most important processor for graphics, it's safe to say that they could get ultra settings in exchange for some compromises in terms of player count.

SOE is wholly owned by sony. Of course they'll say good things about the power of the console. You shouldn't be surprised if some studio owned by Sony or closely co-operating with Sony says something good about them.

what exactly is so crap about the PS4 CPU when it uses HSA?

It's not going to happen, except for games that lower the resolution for artistic reasons.

BF4 is the only non 1080p game, and it still manages 900p.

Killzone:SF multiplayer is in the ball park of 720p for frame rate reasons.

According to IGN Trine 2 is 720p if you do 3D.

When? Simple, when devs wanna push more pretty graphics effects or when games require more demanding assets that make 1080p or 900p too much to maintain steady performance (unless they don't care about performance). It'll happen sooner or later, unless devs are content with what they're pushing right now.

What's so crap about the PS4 GPU? Better ask all the games not running at 1080p60.

I think Deep Down screens that were released were 1280x720? Of course it's no confirmation of rendering resolution but still...with those graphics @ 60fps, it wouldn't be a shock.

Killzone does a lot of things to save power when making its 1920X1080 image, but it's still a 1920X1080 image. I'd put it in the same boat as The Order. For XBONE vs PS4 topics both games are sub 1080p, but when just talking about games themselves they are both 1080p.

3D is a limitation of the system itself. 3D 1080p 60fps is not currently possible. Saying 720p 3D games count in this discussion is comparable to saying 720p remote play games on Vita.tv count. You're free to think that both of them do, but I don't.

This gets into the fact that resolution is not as simple as it used to be. Same goes for framerate. Not all pixels and frames are the same. Need for speed and battlefield for example I believe only render a black and white image at full resolution. The full color render is done at a fourth the res and is scaled using the other image. That 720p render on BF4 XBONE is not directly comparable to the 792p render in Titanfall, yet most people assume it is. With this gen advertized resolutions are pretty much just buzz words.

Well even Guerrilla is saying the technique used for KZ:SM MP is not native 1080p. They wanted to achieve 60 fps and boast native 1080p, it was misleading and they admit it.

I did some reading, the 3D being limited to 720p is due to HDMI 1.4. My mistake.

I feel people are opposed to 720p on PS4 because that would show the hardware has limitations. But PS4 is already showing limitations by doing 30 fps.

Only if be exclusive. If the game will be multi platform, in the worst hypotese, will be 720p on Xbone and 900p or 1080p on PS4.

As long as they games are fun, who cares?
