they arent the same game! They'll have very different feats, maybe just same cast of characters but thats it.

Have the release date a few weeks apart (preferable a month) - give the wii u version the priority. Market them as separate games as well, which they are BTW.
Wahlah both versions are successful... hopefully

I'm really not sure why people feel this way considering the performance of other franchises across the Wii/DS. At any rate, many people will be buying Smash for local multiplayer, which will obviously be better on the Wii U which won't require 4 different systems and four copies of the game.

You know how much Melee sold right? Sure, this one's multiplatform and the Wii U is currently doing worse than the GCN ever was, but I'd still expect 5 million minimum for the Wii U version. |
And you know how much the previous 2D Mario games have sold, right?
ive been saying this for a while. I think people havent woken up to the WIi U situation. People bought Smash on Wii because people already HAD Wii and wanted the system anyway. Wii U doesnt have that luxury, so yes it is very smart to put a version of a game on a system that people are actually BUYING and kinda want (3ds) it would be stupid to hedge their bets on Smash moving a bunch of Wii Us, not gonna happen.
From a bias point, still smart, I have 3ds and no Wii U so i like that I will be able to get some Smash on without having to drop hundreds of bucks. If the Wii U version is that much better ill get it later. Plus it doesnt really effect me what game moves what console

DS download play! Don't know if that's actually been confirmed yet though. :L Everything else you said is true though, except Japan will no doubt flock to the 3DS version! |
its not like people dont get together to play Pokemon either.

Local multiplayer is the key component that will keep 3DS Smash from cannibalizing Wii U Smash, especially if what Sakurai said about the 3DS version emphasizing single-player is true.
My only worry is that you'll have to buy both to get the whole experience. As long as the Wii U's single player mode doesn't take too much of a hit to give the 3DS version a selling point...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
