Forums - Gaming - Isn't it a bit absurd when people say play the game to see if you will like it? (mainly for lowly reviewed games)

This comment I've seen around the web wouldn't be weird if they meant the demo/borrowing from a friend or whatever, but some times they mean full releases. This is mainly for the lowly scoring games.I find it really odd for someone to recommend paying $60/full price to see if you will like the game. I can see if it was discounted or whatever, but full price? Once you open the game, it can't be returned. So that would be $$ down the drain if you end up not liking it. I usually go with gameplay + some reviews for games. What about you? Do you think it's absurd? What are your methods before purchasing a game? Am I the crazy one? Am I!?

A sensible person!

Play the demo, in case there is no demo watch a video!

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

Yes it's a weird way to go about this and in my opinion shows that someone either has too much money to spend or is just not very responsible with his money,

Another weird thing I once heard was that you should just find a review that gives the game you might be interested in a positive score and completely ignore all possible criticism the game might be getting from other sources.

Geez, wtf. That sounds completely mad.

I was about to say "it makes sense if there's a demo" but the OP has it... So you're not crazy ;)

Usually, I buy games when they come from a franchise/series I love (Zelda/DBZ games), my childhood (Mario and Pokemon), super cheap games thanks to piracy (This is how I found out of GTA, and FIFA), or gameplay footage (Pikmin). Also, borrowing from a friend could work, if you have the same system as your friends...

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

I don't think it's necessary to play a game to know if it's your type or not. But when you start praising/bashing it to no end then it's important you play it first before doing so...

Do you happen to be one of the 5000 wii u owners? j/k

In all seriousness though, I do the same with franchises/developers that have proven themselves to me over the years. Just seems kind of weird to plop down money to just try out a game.

You could rent the game or borrow it from a friend?

Already mentioned those points in op. This is for the people who tell you to pay full price just to try out the game to see if you like it or not.
