At the end of the day you're fully responsible for your products. Nintendo has 100% responsibility for the Wii U and EA has 100% responsibility for their games.

In this case EA is the one to blame for the lack of marketing behind the game as it was their product, their team, and therefore their responsibility to support it. However, Nintendo could've shown some interest in the title in order to support the Wii U as it's not EA's (or any third party's) responsibility to make the Wii U a profitable and successful platform.

this is the best answer in the whole thread

Port begging is becoming really annoying fgs. If a publisher or developer doesn't want to put their game on a system that is their choice and they have their reasons.

But they might be dumb reasons.

The only time port-begging is really asinine is when it's a paid exclusive...

I guess that is opinion (even then unless you're a stockholder you're in no position to demand such things).

Quite frankly WiiU's performance and the third party software sales so far are justified reasons enough. Why people expect third parties to take these risks I'll never know.

If it was worth it for them, they would do it.

Game fans often times have no concept of reality.

It's easy to sit behind a keyboard and say do this or that with no financial risk involved. When it's your own small company and you have to run a business that puts food on people's tables ... then you can't just magically support every platform, you have to narrow things down to where you feel you will get the most money.

A lot of these Nintendo fans that beg for ports would probably sing a very, very different tune if it was their life savings invested into a company and every project had to make a profit or you'd have to start laying people off or even close up shop.

And no, Nintendo is not responsible for marketing every third party game per se, but they are responsible for the overall direction/demographic appeal of their consoles, and they are the ones making a console aimed at a audience that doesn't give a crap about consoles to begin with -- kids and casuals.

In that ecosystem a third party making a game like Need For Speed isn't going to be successful because there's no audience for that type of game, they all go elsewhere, which IS Nintendo's fault for not creating a well rounded platform that appeals to a wide variety of demographics (not just a short sighted view of the market where they can sell Mario games and desperately try to bring back the Wii Fit crowd).

They have all the resources in the world to make a console that can appeal to  a wider range of gamers and not ostracize or alienate core gamers so much, but they purposely chose not to go that route and that consumer has an easy choice of simply ignoring Nintendo.

advertise a NFS game? I don't think I have ever seen NFS adds on TV, perhaps in stores with EAs logo on it but that is about it

You are joking, right? Need for Speed games have always been heavily advertised.

no i am not joking. HoweverI live in Aus so if there are ads they probably on paid tv.

Those ads above were generic for PS and Windows. So not like Sony marketed those ads.

Lets be really why would Nintendo market EA's games?

I can understand Nintendo getting behind exclusive 3rd party games like they tried with Zombie U bundles etc.. but late ports from a company that had unprecedented support said FU you think they would? Unfortunetly the devs in all these situations always suffer. Look at Rayman Legens dev, same deal they wanted the game out on WIi U but were forced to delay by Ubisoft.

It is not Nintendo's job to sell a 3rd party games, especially one that is released six months after the versions on other consoles

The man says he complained when the publisher didn't bother to press discs. In response to the late port statement, the guy says that they just did the coding and had no control over when it releases. It sounds like one of two things happened here:

1) They had the game ready around the same time as the other systems and neither Nintendo nor EA care to get it out there at that time.
2) The game was finished significantly later than the other platforms, but still at the time that they were asked to deliver it. Meaning they were told to let the WiiU version take less priority than the other versions. Once it was done, there was still some delay on the Publisher's side due to a lack of interest.

Either way, the late release seemed completely out of their control and they did talk to both Nintendo and EA to try to get it out more timely.

EDITED

He also mentions that they worked "through new year", so they did the best to finish the game (and they did a pretty good job I may add), but it was the publisher that chosed the release date and price, and that was one of the biggest complains about the game, it was a late port with a very high price when compared to the other console versions.

Nintendo failed specially because the game did feature some extra stuff exclusive for the console, so they could had marketed the game especially if you add that the line-up was not very strong during that time. But EA screw it up big time, by charging too much, no advertising at all and physical release delay in Europe as the developer mentions.

It was very sad to see such a good title get caught in the battle between the companies, and it was around this time that the "we are not going to work on any title for Nintendo" news came around

What is shocking me is that everyone is saying the devs did a good a job. Maybe they did a good technical job on the port but this was one of THE WORST need for speed games ever made.

It's so strange, nitnendo did things so rigth on indies and failed so miserable on thirdies. I mean, its the same, people putting their games on your machine for a price. But this guy had bad luck because in europe, there is no dan aldemam so, altough the processed was made better and people got called to work with nintendo there, still is a long and slow process.

PS: in gaf there where some people that this guy is a ass with their coleagues and in twitter too.
