Forums - Sony - 5 Reasons To Buy A PS4

I'm going to be doing a thread like this for every system, discussing the reasons to buy each console/system and why I would suggest people buy it in 2014. I'll be interested in seeing whether people agree with my reasonings or not and what people would add.

1. Graphical Fidelity

Short of getting a PC, the PS4 is the best system currently avaliable for graphical performance. Games will release with better framerates, resolutions, and more capable textures. In short games will look better on this system than they will anywhere else. Not the most important thing in gaming... but it's nice to know.

2. Market Saturation

With the console selling as well as it is, the PS4 will likely have good market saturation, with plenty of games avaliable, and in the years to come plenty of reasonably priced second hand games. Whether this continues remains to be seen, it's early days yet, but as the PS2 proved when compared with the Gamecube and Xbox, a large market share makes finding games far easier.

3. Playstation Plus

Whilst I personally don't like digital distribution, Playstation Plus is genuinely interesting as it's giving multiple good releases to subscribers for free. It's cleaverly set up to entice you to keep your subscription going for as long as possible, but you simply can't deny the value is high here and only increases the longer you hold a subscription.

4. Indie Gaming

What was once the realm of the PC is now one of the PS4's calling cards. Indie developers are being purposely courted by Sony and this means the experimental games that people have jumped on in the past will likely see light of day here first, if not exclusively here. Some of the indie games of the past include Minecraft, Braid, Journey, Bastion, Super Meat Boy, Cave Story and more, and they've all been across many different platforms. With them concentrated on PS4, we can expect to see; granted a lot of pretentious shit, but a few interesting gems... maybe even something that will change gaming in some way like previous indies have.

5. The Exclusives

This is obviously the biggest reason and it's a damn fine one. InFamous: Secon Son, The Order: 1886, and Shadow Of The Beast all look like interesting games that will make their mark. There's still only a small number of exclusive games, with Knack and Killzone: Shadowfall not exactly wowing people, but there's a variety and when combined with the multiplatform library, the PS4 is developing a decent game library.

So those are my reasons for buying a PS4. I'll be posting the same for other systems in the near future. So what do people think? Do you have another reason that intices you more? Do you disagree with the reasons I gave?

Around the Network

5 and 3 are the reasons i'm trying to hunt one down now. I wanted to have one when inFamous launches but because of the shortage issues, I'm trying to grab it as soon as possible instead. Also, screw that inFamous bundle. I renewed my PS+ sub in late November and I don't need an extra controller. I'd rather that extra 110$ go to the other games I'm interested in.

4 ≈ One

2 and 4 for me as I am not much for FPS and such, but prefer slower puzzle and indie games. If there is a distinct market leader it means both that a lot of games comes to that plattform but also that the competing platforms makes an extra effort.

2 and 5 are the best reasons I can see. PS+ should be optional IMO.

1. Graphical Fidelity
If that is that much of an issue, then buy a PC.

2. Market Saturation
Is it fun that everyone else has one too?

3. Playstation Plus
Nope. Doesn't cut it for me. Especially when there are not many games on the system I would like to rent 'for free'.

4. Indie Gaming
Same as 1, PC.

5. The Exclusives
Not much at the moment, not much in the near future.

Definitely agree with 1, 2, 3, and 5.

I don't care about indie games, so my number 4 would be the share features.

I'll be sure to pick up multiplats like Metal Gear Solid V and Final Fantasy XV for PC when they.... oh wait, that's right. Sometimes PC isn't all that great. Look at last gen, Vanquish, Bayonetta, Resonance Of Fate, Grand Theft Auto 5.... should I continue?

There is no word of a PC version of Final Fantasy XV.

3 and 5 alone are good enough reasons to get the PS4

Why not both?

Seriously, those "single gaming option" peasants.
