I wonder if the PS4's coffin looks like the X1.

Wouldnt that be something to see?

It makes sense, I mean the PS4 easily could fit twice in an X1 right?

So 3,5 million X1 sold times 2 = 7 million PS4's can be put in the coffins!!! Is more than enough. Now we just need tha final nailzzz!!!!!111

The week of a price cut doesn't mean much. Vita outsold 3DS when it got a price cut for a week and Soul Sacrifice released for it that week also (like Titanfall this week with a price cut)

It's a 30GBP price cut, unless MS has cut it another 20GBP since last I heard.

Minecraft? A game that nearly everyone who wants it owns on at least 2 platforms already is going to put Xb one over the top for the rest of the generation? I think not.

Price cut certainly had a beneficial effect, but it's too small of a price cut to have a lasting effect. A price cut with a longer term boosting effect would have been 50-70GBP.

It will be fun to watch over the next few months to see if what MS has done so far to improve Xb one's performance has the desired effect, and whether MS makes any further moves to push sales. I suspect they won;t bother with anything much leading in to the slow sales months, and any further major move they make will be August/Sept.

Both PS4 and Xb one are horrendously expensive in the UK (cost more there than they do here in NZ), no one has explained why the high price. I think Sony will let Xb one come back to PS4 RRP before they consider cutting price. I reckon PS4 will get its first price cut in Feb 2015 and it will be $50, then 18 months later it will get a further $50 cut so it can sell gangbusters in holiday 2016 at $299. Hardware should be well and truly profitable at $299 by that time.

Xbone needs a 70% increase in hardware sales to sell more in UK this week... if that big boost in sales happened then Chart-track should report it.

So no.

It certainly could. PS4 availabilty has been dire since last week.

Let's enjoy the game experience. PS4 will dominate this gen, live with that X fans. Accept it, it will be easier and less painful. It's silly to look at the micro scenario, 1 week after a price cut, etc... any company going with a price cut and those deals so early is in serious troubles.

Really is that what happened with the PS3? PS3 cut price in July of there launch year. So is XBOX ONE going to be doomed if they do the same and cut price as early as July? Seems many of you don't understand that this is the very beginning of the gen and anything can happen. Took ps3 a long time to catch up but they did.

Numbers from that month.  Look XBox One Should pass PS3 numbers by April in aligned launch year.. So to say anyone cutting price and doing deals this early, is also saying PS3 would have never came back and was doomed.  Sorry but this argument is getting really old.

DS 453,238 (-3%) 46,377,230
Wii 255,828 (-8%) 9,301,578
PSP 183,447 (-6%) 24,414,591
X360 69,870 (-13%) 10,461,493
PS3 63,826 (+4%) 3,884,475
Total1,026,209(-5%)

Given the context of this thread is the UK, as it's the only market where there's been an official price cut, you are actually dooming Xb one by comparing it to PS3 price cuts. In the UK PS3 got its arse kicked so hard that both Wii's and X360's boots came out its mouth. PS3 did not catch up at all in the UK. PS3 temporarily outsold X360 in the UK after the 2009 price cut, but 360 soon regained dominance. And PS3 was coming off the back of a generation where PS2 was far more dominant. So if PS3 couldn't retake the UK market after 2 generations of dominance through price cuts, then what makes you think Xb one can re-take the UK after no generations of dominance? 360 snuck past Wii at the end of the 7th gen, but not to any extent that it could be called dominance.

The global context for PS3 is vastly different to the global context for Xb one. You may reflect on the fact that launch aligned PS3 outsold X360 every year, it was only ever X360's one year head start that gave it a global lead. If PS3 had launched at the same time as X360 and followed the same pattern of price cuts X360 probably would never have been in a leading position over PS3 at any point in the generation. Wii would still have won of course.  PS4 and Xb one are effectively launch aligned and PS4 has >2M lead already. So there really is no comparability between PS3 and Xb one. UK and USA markets still see Xb one favourably and Xb one can come back in those markets. But globally the vast majority of countries favoured PS3 over X360 quite early in the generation and there's basically no chance that Xb one can reverse a 3 generation pattern.

Unless I suddenly turned blind, where in the link OP provided does it say or even hint at XB1 outselling the PS4 in the UK for that one week? All I see is software (games), not hardware (consoles). Also add to that that Minecraft isn't timed exclusive for Xbox One (it was supposed to be a launch title for PS4, but got delayed) and the OP already talking about the PS4's death in the UK, this is one hell of a fanboy thread.

Looks like someone had a reading comprehension fail.  Lol.  The link you posted doesn't even mention how SW performed on specific HW.  It mentions them as a whole.

"Developed by Eidos Montreal it smashes the week 1 of predecessor ‘Thief: Deadly Shadows’ last seen on Xbox & PC in 2004. It also achieves the second highest sales for a No1 title in 2014 behind FIFA 14 with 75% of those sales coming for Xbox One & PS4. ‘The Lego Movie Videogame’ (-33%) drops to No2 after two weeks at the top but stays ahead of ‘FIFA 14’ (-15%) which drops to No3.

Another debutant lands at No4 this week as ‘Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare’ arrives for both Xbox One & 360."

The only place they mention a specific platform is Tales on PS3 and Burst on 3DS.  Did you maybe post the wrong link?

When Titanfall comes and Mincraft timed next gen exclusive comes out I expect that to be the final nail in the coffin for the PS4 in UK.

Alright! Let me know when the first nail occurs.

We could use the original ps3 as the hammer.  Cause we all remember the ol' vgchartz addage "the only way the ps3 will ever beat the 360 is if its dropped on it".

The long vents on the original xbox could be the nails!  Those things are.pretty sharp.
