So far next gen has been somewhat underwhelming for me.

Wii U lacks games

and XBOX ONE and PS4 although they have some great games incoming the biggest annoyance is the lack of space. Now you may call me crazy and say they got 500gb which is more than Wii U, however what the Wii U does is allow me to install games to external HDDS, which is fantasitc however it has no games to install lol.

Now with the other two, game installs are mandatory. So condiering they are between 20-50gb for popular AAA games, that doesn't really give you much space for many games. Sure I could replace the hdd with a bigger one for PS4 but like that only extends it to say 30 games tops.

I could uninstall the games but why should I have to? My biggest issue is not the uninstalling part but rather all games these days require patches and have DLC. As games become more complex, patches will be required to actually fix game breaking bugs. If i uninstall a game and want to revisit it 5 years from now how do I play it if the patches have been removed for example? MOre importantly when the gen ends how do I get the patches?

So my dilemma is this, I got a Wii U, appreciate the fact I can install games on my own externals, but like WERE ARE THE GAMES LOL. So I want to buy a PS4 but space will be diminishing fast.

Is PC gaming the answer for multi plats and just stick to console exclusives? 

Does anyone else feel like they could bash there head in asking WTF were they thinking with space when they decided on mandatory installs?

There's no rush to get a PS4. You can wait till they offer the console with a larger memory.

problem is the biggest memory currently aviable to mass market in that size is still pretty small. So it will be a long wait.

I rather they allowed games to be installed to external drives.

What are you going to do when the hdd fails?
Or when the console fails, all the data on the HDD is encrypted and tied to the console.
Basic gameplay should work without patches. Multiplayer is most dependent on patches, yet that's gone anyway when the patches are gone. DLC, buy at your own risk...

WiiU games are coming this year granted only if you are expecting Nintendo games... There is Beyonatta, Hyrule Warriors, MK, Smash, X and a few more all scheduled for 2014 release, just starting May cause Nintendo + release dates = lolz but its all for the quality

Reinstalling on PS4 only takes a few minutes. It's super fast compared to just the partial installs on PS3.

Also I'm not sure if un-installing also removes patches and DLC. If it doesn't, then you're good to go. If it does, then I could see Sony adding that feature before you fill the 500GB.

At the moment I have 19 games on my PS4, and I still have 117GB left. If I upgraded to a 2TB drive I could easily fit over 100 games. I would like the ability to use external drives if they had high bit rate 1080P and 4K movies, but from a pure games stand point I think this would only benefit a very niche part of the user base.

Yep I am one of those purchases haha that is why I kind of feel let down. Sure I could probably buy my own 1tb hdd, but since both companies decided to make install mandatory why should I have to?  Each gen I buy at least 70 games on a system so I should be able to install and patch them all. Then just use a backup hdd to back the system up regularly. 

I agree in theory most games should work without patches but the more complex games get the more game breaking bugs we see. Even the all mighty perfectionists Nintendo have had some gamebreaking bugs in recent years and that was on a standard def console. It is just the nature of the beast we live in as games get more and more complex so I have accepted that. This is also why I think patches should be able to download them and store them seperately. 

Most people with a pc only have double the space of the ps4 and xbox one. The ps4 is easily upgradable, so these complaints about space are as valid as they are for the wiiU. The xbox one on the other hand needs to figure something out.
