I believe EA made a good deal with TitanFall really. It's a new IP and failing is always a possibility. (Although chances of this happening with TF are slim imo)
They are probably not spending much on marketing since MS appears to be doing it.

That is some seriously messed up reasoning you have there. Why on earth would EA predict that X1 sells much less than PS4 and still go with a partnership with MS? Its quite clear that the quote ehomaz posted indicates that EA thought X1 would be have a sales adavantage and thats why they went with them. How can you not see that? |
Who said they predicted "much less" than PS4? No one ever said EA can't be surprised by how well the PS4 is selling. You people are really kidding yourselves if you don't believe that before making this deal for complete exclusive rights to the first game, EA wasn't aware of how much MS would charge for each console, how many territories they were launching in (or at least a good estimate) and the same information on Sony for the PS4. And that with this information, EA would still predict Xbone to outsell the PS4.
Maybe they still did though. Or maybe they just thought the Xbone would be ahead in the US. Or maybe they figured the PS4 would be ahead, but the amount of money either paid or kicked back to EA for the deal would offset sales projections for the game on PS3/PS4. It's funny how people harp on one part of the quote, about making the deal based on sales projections, but then ignore the last part, about how they still feel good about those predictions. Yeah sure sounds like they are totally shocked.
People keep implying EA said this in a factual manner. I wasn't aware they had so I asked for a quote. Of course I was right, they hadn't said it, and it's just agenda based spin on a comment.

Showing them this doesn't matter. They'll continue to argue regardless. They also argued about the E3 bullshit with Microsoft when it was staring them dead in the face.

So EA isnt shocked? And everything is going according to plan for MS/EA?
Like i said bad reasoning on your part.
Also the only person spinning the implications of the quote is you. You called it "agenda based spin" i believe.
Looking at the xb1's current sales which unfortunately aren't holding as well as the ps4, this is an okay deal for MS. Titanfall is helping maintain sales because of the hype and will add to sales upon release. It would be better for xb1's sales if it was only for xb1 but EA would never go for that. I feel MS will take a loss on this bulk deal they've made but there's no way to know since we don't know how much they paid.
Is it good for EA, probably not. They are looking for another CoD competitor but from my perspective weren't completely sure of it's success. 45%ish? of CoD sells are on PS platforms. Seems if you're going to go after that market, skipping such a large chunk of them is counter productive, which is why I believe they were fine going with an MS exclusive. EA will just have to hope the hype maintains and sells software once the bundle is removed from shelves, and is strong enough to sell PS owners on Titanfall 2.
don't know how long this deal will last, considering the low selling numbers of XOne... EA is not happy.

Worth it for EA, because you know whatever Microsoft payed them was a good amount. So far it's been a laughably ineffective deal for Microsoft on top of the failed NFL marketing rights deal, let's see if Plants vs Zombies and TitanFall help sell some consoles.

According to EA, no. People seem to be ignoring this part of the quote though.

Nowhere in any post I have made in this thread did I say that in a factual manner. They could be surprised by the sales, they might not be.

That's ok, you're allowed to be wrong. They won't ban you or anything.

Yeah except for that part where I'm not assuming anything off of what EA said, only saying that sound logic exists that could allow you to arrive at more than one assumption. Hope that helps, toodles.
