With the release of seemingly big games such as Thief getting a rather low metascore (70), I wonder how many of you still look at reviews before buying the game. Do note that pre-ordering a game does count as buying it without looking at reviews, obviousily. 

I myself don't pre-order games anymore (I used to mainly pre-order Sonic games due to my hype) but I do look at reviews before buying games. Even games that I was confident of getting (such a Pokemon X) were games that I checked on sites like Metacritic for an average review score. Though I dislike critic reviews I find checking them before buying a game unavoidable at this present time.

Yes, I do read reviews and check out review scores. It really helps to paint a picture of the game in question. Had I not read reviews I would probably have bought Aliens: CM and Total War: Rome II - both being buggy at launch (and A: CM being a bad game overall) - thus the reviews saved me from those games (although, I do intend on getting Rome II once most of the bugs have been fixed). Reviews also encouraged me to by the latest Tomb Raider, which I am enjoying right now!

I don't use metacritic for my purchase decisions ( I tend to look at genre, game information, and gameplay video then judge from there). I just like seeing my favorite games getting good scores on the meta

I've only ever done that and regretted it with brink. Never again.
I sometimes though but only with some dev's like Naughty Dog and Dice

Unless a game is getting slaughtered in the reviews I don't let it affect my purchase. I know what I like and I have enough confidence in certain developers. Lollipop Chainsaw received mediocre scores yet it was one of my favorite games of this gen.

I use scores only if i'm gonna buy a classic game. if I'm interested in something new, chances are I already decided on buying it or not before it releases
