The difference is that Playstation as a video game brand has more world wide appeal than Xbox. With a proper price cut, the PS3 will sell for additional years in developing countries and rest of the world as vgchartz calls it. This will keep PS3 in production longer (PS2 as an example) and sales a float.

I dont think we can use the PS2 as an example, PS2 was an enormous sucess, it was so insane that the last game for the console was released last year, its pretty crazy that God knows how long after the launch of the console it still ahd a new game beeing released for it.
