I wonder how many people lost their jobs. 10, 30, 50, 100? It's also rumored that one of their projects is canceled (OP), I wonder what project.

SCEA can confirm that we have completed a reduction in workforce at Santa Monica Studio. This is a result of a cycle of resource re-alignment against priority growth areas within SCE WWS. We do not take these decisions lightly. However, sometimes it is necessary to make changes to better serve the future projects of the studio. We have offered outplacement services and severance packages to ease transition for those impacted. ------------- It's totally coffee guys. The original source though, wasn't Sony, Sony didn't make an official statement until after there was basically a "rumor" going around that there were layoffs. |
You beat me to it.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
I knew the PS4 wasn't enough to cover the losses of everything else in the company, but I didn't expect layoffs from them.

I was just completely shocked how poorly it sold. The question is why are they laying people off. Not selling up to expectations is a big deal. Getting nearly beaten by a poor selling 360 exclusive in Japan is noteworthy.
For example God of War III sold three times as many units in Japan. We know they just canceled a game, and are moving the studio out of Santa Monica. They were supposed to be expanding, but seems they are merging more operations with Naughty Dog at the new place.

Lol.
Doesn't changed the fact that Sony made a statement, in most cases companies just say "no comment" or deny the rumors.

But they changed pretty quickly if thats the case cause they moved like 2 months ago. Im guessing the move wasnt to expand to beging with and the lay offs were planned already cause otherwise this doesnt make sense at all. Also how many games do they have in development at once ? This is kind of an important information cause otherwise "they canceled a game" can simply mean they scrapped a very minor project they had there them layed-off the team working on it wich was probably very small, if its only 2 or something like that tham its very hughe and they probably layed-off throngs of ppl.
