Nope. Wii U is getting exactly what it deserves. I'm remain baffled as to how Nintendo found a way to go from the heights of the Wii to the depths of the Wii U so quickly. The system makes no sense. It is not a true successor to the Wii in philosophy or mission. I don't know how or who thought going this direction was a good idea. Those who enjoyed the Gamecube probably love the U, those who thought Gamecube was a massive disappointment feel the Wii U is just a continuation of that.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

No, I pity myself to have to live in a world where americans dictate the video game tendencies and dumb FPSs and hand holding games are all we get, I miss the days of Star Oceans, Silent Hills, Fatal Frames and games like that =/

I pity the young gamer that think Call of Duty and Battlefield is the only thing that exists, I pity the inovators who get mocked when they try something new. I pity a world without Nintendo.

Oh well... (Go back to play Star Ocean First Departure on PSP).

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I pity people that make these types of threads.

Why would I pity a product? It has no feelings.

As a philosophical question; no, I don't, it is the result of a poorly conceived and ditto executed concept that was rushed to the market to prevent the Wii trademark from falling into obscurity. Horrible strategy and planning should never be rewarded.

You're playing Donkey Kong out of pity.

Actually, I'm posting from my Wii U right now, too. I'm playing Donkey Kong and my PS4 is showing WWE Network.

The system makes perfect sense.  In a world were tablets are the must have item.  A console that allows you to play both console type games and tablet type games is the perfect combination.  Also the fact its fully backwards compatible and allows for full use of your existing Wii controllers etc is ideal.  What Nintendo does need to do however is get more games on the system. I said to a friend months ago both the PS4 and Xbox will suffering the same reduction in sales once the launch titles dry up and thats happening.  The Xbox has just had a price cut in the UK only 4 months after launch.  With that in mind go talk about the silly decision MS made of insisting everyone have Kinect lol.

The system is selling at a loss, and the same tablet you're saying that they "knew" wasn't going to make up for a lack of horsepower is to blame. If your statement that they're trying to cheap out is correct, then they're doing an awful job of it...

The system isn't selling at a loss.  Stop trying to kid yourself.  When the Wii U launched Iwata made the statement that they were selling at a loss at the time and as long as one game sold they turned a profit.  So the Deluxe edition of the Wii U was selling at a profit, the standard edition required one game to be sold.  I'm sure everyone who owns a Wii U has bought one game, so that marginal loss isn't much of a loss at all.  A third party game sold and Nintendo pockets $20, they were losing less than $20 at that time.

Sony is selling the PS4 loss at the cost of $399.  Microsoft is selling at a loss at $499.  Sort of like the Wii U, they need to sell games to turn a profit.  This is one year after the launch of the Wii U, where the prices of all these parts are all cheaper than they would have been when Nintendo would have used them if they launched with a more powerful system in 2012.

So yeah.  Nintendo did cheap out by going with a gimmick instead of more powerful hardware.  They came out cosing around $200 less than they otherwise would have.

Do you even understand what you are saying? How is WiiU "little cost"?  Nintendo is losing money with every sold WiiU and  Sony allegedly makes proft with every sold Ps4 also charges for online. So who is greedy here?
(dont fool yourself in believeing sony NEEDS to have a fee to offer multiplayer because its SO EXPENSIVE :(
Noone ever forced them to offer official servers for everyone. What about friends joining friends on player hosted servers like on PC?  And official servers just for people giving a f* about tournaments etc? They even said one of their biggest mistakes last gen was not having an online fee...
Third party and Sony/MS want to have control over the players and shutdown a games online functionality when needed so they can force people to buy the next installment. They use this as an excuse for a "needed" fee)

Consumers are the reason why Nintendo decided to go Wii and WiiU.
N64 and GC were super powerful. NOONE bought them.  PS1 and PS2 were crapp hardware sold terrific.
DS was crappy hardware sold better than the Gameboy or GBA. Even tho Nintendo had to fight the PSP during that time and all of that with a "new" nintendo product that did not have the famous GAMEBOY logo anyhwere on its case.

Wii was crappy hardware = best selling Nintendo home console ever

Trying to go the Wii route was more than understandable. The only HUGE mistake nintendo made was thinking a well-known name (Wii) will guarantee good sales. They totally ignored the DS outselling the GB family while not being part of the GB family. And labeling every shit Wii something so people still dont understand that Wii U is a new console (alot of PS360 owners dont know and even japanese people dont know)  the name is a disaster.

Read post above this one.

I pity the people who did the marketing and came up with the name 'Wii U'. I remember that after the announcement at E3, a lot of gaming journalists thought the Tablet was called the Wii U, and was something for the original Wii. Its purely shit marketing.

For me, the Wii U was what I wanted the Wii to be and feels much more like a balance between the demographics. Sadly, I was one of those that felt underwhelmed by the Wii and feel content to wait until the library is filled out as I lost faith in Nintendo to support their consoles and get support.

It will end up somewhere between Gamecube (yay!) and N64 (meh) for me in the pantheon of Nintendo consoles.
