Forums - Sales - PS4 Sells 322k Units In Japan (2 Days)

I expect slow numbers until a big hitter drops (FFXV, KH3, Yakuza) then it will take OFFF

PSN: Saugeen-Uwo     Feel free to add me (put Vg Chartz as MSG)!

Nintendo Network ID: Saugeen-Uwo

It's interesting to note here that the Wii U sold 308k or so in it's opening 2 days in Japan (and it had the joy of Christmas competition). Ps4 had nothing else new and exciting released to compete with and no amazing deals for other devices to compete with and still sold just a little better than the Wii U did in it's opening 2 days. I'm seriously starting to wonder if Japan really IS turning into a smartphone/handheld only country...

Well..., a bit disappointed. Boring numbers in fact. Solid numbers, but boring. Because it sold enough to not be considered a bomb, but it didn't impress anyone. I expected PS4 will sell more than PSV.... Well, we'll see next weeks what happens, but I expect WiiU levels soon...

And if i'm right, definitively, Japan industry is dead.

You are missing 3 big points here.

1. The WiiU didn't have a de facto competition. It was the very first 8th gen console and had all the hype with it from E3.

2. Nintendo has a big kids demographic. Just guess which time around they all get presents.

3. People buy A LOT more around christmas time than in late february.

In light of that the PS4 is already much more popular than the WiiU

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I predicted 500K for the week I'm probably 80K short

So in WiiU territory. Which is good, that was a good launch. PS4 even did slightly better. Sony should be pleased. Let's hope it'll do better at maintaining a decent number, but I think that won't be a big problem .

Don't remember if I ever gave a predicting in some thread around here, but I think I would have said 'around WiiU numbers', so I was probably in the ballpark!

So how long before PS4 outsells Wii U in japan ?

Before 2015..

I predicted 350k first week, glad to know it will surpass that.

I'm not sure if any of those things, well maybe point #1 would, have a big impact on first-day sales. The people getting these consoles at launch aren't the kids; they're the hardcore gamers and they don't really care when something's released, whether it's a Nintendo console or a PlayStation one.

Not that I necessarily agreed with the premise of Dulfite's post though. Of course you could argue that most of those hardcore gamers in Nintendo's case are kids (like young teenagers that know what's up in the world) that need their parent's money, in which case chistmas would indeed help.
