Just like the Wii
I think it might match PS3 in sales, not any more sadly.
I think it's going to sell between the PS3's numbers and the PS1's numbers.

I'm not so sure about beating the PS2. There were a lot of things in SONY's favor, during those times. GTA Sandreas was DEFINETELY one of them. Even if Microsoft bails on Xbox early, I think it would still be pretty hard to beat.
Now, if Microsoft were to sell their Xbox licenses to SONY (Halo, Gears), well...that's a whole different ball game...
EDIT: Also, Playstation NOW would have to be everything I'd HOPE it to be (at least HALF of a full library of PS1, PS2, & PS3 titles). If not, & the PS3 is still alive and kicking, I don't see it happening...
Yes, there is a lot of doubt, actually. In fact I'd go so far as to say that PS4 doesn't have a prayer of matching those kinds of sales figures. It's sales just within the first few months of launch are not going to maintain at that level over the long-haul. And I seriously doubt ANY of the current "next gen" consoles are going to match even their previous gen counterparts in sales.
Mind you, I am not one of those who thinks that gaming consoles are on the decline. But I am realistic enough to realize that last gen was a bit of an aberration as far as how well ALL three consoles (and even both portables) sold. That was rather unprecedented in the history of video gaming, that all of the consoles would do as well as they did. Usually there is one market leader with nothing else coming quite close at all.
It will not happen again, nor will PS4 likely reach the heights PS2 (which remained on the market well past it's expiration date for the simple fact that PS3 didn't sell well it's first couple years).
I agree with most that the ps4 will win this gen for sure but I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if it tops 100 million. Just cos the competition is doing poorly doesn't mean (longterm) that the ps4 will see a significant boost. Everyone knows the traditional console industry is dying. It showed signs of life with the ps4 launch but I expect things to drop once all the diehards are satiated. Video games had their chance to go mainstream but that time has passed (or morphed into something else)...

Try to quote me at least.
Based on the current trends, I can't see how you think the PS4 will sell less than the PS3 unless there's some underlying factor that you know about that no one else is aware of or are you convinced that the market will decline and that somewhere around 150million will be the total hardware sales for 8th gen.
Never.
PS4 may match the PS3 in the long run, and win the generation, but won't come close to PS2. I don't think PS4 or PS3 will reach 100m. PS3 had very good legs after a slow start, but still unmistakably worse than the legs of the PS1 and definitely PS2. I don't see PS4's legs being any better, but it's good start gives an advantage for the time being.
It won't come close to PS2 sales. No console will ever sell that much again. It won't even sell as much as the PS3 because this gen won't last as long as last gen.
I think XOne and WiiU will do more or less like XBox and GameCube VS PS2. PS4 will dominate easy this gen in the Global figure, it should be today above WiiU and selling sooo much better than One. Sony have already won this gen. Mark my words.
