Forums - Sony - Five things Sony should take from microsoft to impress (even more) during their console launches.

xbox's marketing and games (like titanfall) are much too "dudebro" for me.

"Hate to break it to you but the majority of console gamers like top notch, twitch run and gun shooters."

..i mean, that sentence right there sums up my complaint quite nicely.  i hate run and gun twitch shooters.  i love artsy fartsy games, puzzle games, and action adventure games.  thats why i love playstation soo much more than xbox.   sony doesn't hone in on one type of gamer as much as MS.   oh sure, heavy rain and demon's souls aren't for everyone but it's these niche titles that broaden their appeal so much.  MS only wants to deal in the mega-hits.  i don't fault anyone in enjoying CoD but i have different tastes than that and don't want a console that doesn't have the games i want.

and sony did scout out third party games,. but they smartly, imo, choose to go after indies.  30 good indie titles are worth much much more than 1 titanfall.  for all the people complaining that "ps4 had no games at launch" take a look at xbone's and ps4 current library.  ps4 has about a 50% larger library already.

...but sony has typically been pretty bad with their marketing.  the "perfect day" one was great but a lot of others not so much.  but then again, all the marketing in the world won't cover up a bad product.  sony has their prioritize straight there.  empty promises make for unhappy (non returning) customers.

Sony as a brand worldwide is much stronger than Microsoft. Microsoft has gained a strong foothold in America though.

Alright, now I want to see "Five things MS should take from Sony" THread!

I could do that but not pertaining to launches. Sony's strengths require fans who understand long term investment. Sony does things that work out better for them in the long run rather than the here and now for fans.

lol I think 99% of gamers are going to have to disagree with you there.

Actually Sony did nothing but preserve the status quo. Their positive press came from staying out of the DRM issue with Microsoft and EA. Price point was fixed and they fixed UI issues. The work is never done.

I made a thread about this if you're interested.

with how much ps4s are selling, out how much improvement could they much other than increasing supply?

they might not have marketed the launch to appeal the most to you and your dorm, but other than letting Microsoft get some third party exclusives and turning off some by following Microsoft's playbook by charging for online there only big issue is how much media the ps3 can do that the ps4 still can't, and that they can fix.

Sony's marketing has never been enough I think. MS overdose it sometimes though till the point you get annoyed with seeing advertising for their products.

Usher.

Sony is for all form of gamers not just the social-dudebros-yougotsomedoritos-ADHD gamers

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

PS4s are sold out everywhere, I think Sony is doing fine with the PS4 atm.

Thank god, no Usher performance at a Sony event. Yet.

Frankly, as much as I prefer the Sony consoles and exclusives, I must say that you have to respect the MS PR machine, everything looks and feel polished well prepared and they know how to spread the excitement, even when what they offer is actually not that impressive! it's the perfect incarnation of "fake it until you make it"...

Alright I'll bite.

1. Sony got The Order 1886 exclusive and they're going to be heavily marketing Destiny as a PS4 game. They'll probably have a Destiny bundle when the game comes out.

I cannot wait for the Order myself, but it isn't multiplayer and Destiny is not coming out until September and Microsoft has Titanfall in March. You do the math on the hype. Everyone has been betting on the wrong horse this gen for specific things. EA thought Microsoft would outsell Sony and succeed with DRM and Activision and Sony think Destiny will be the top shooter of the gen and yet Titanfall has destroyed hype expectations.

2. Sony's marketing has been fantastic for the PS4. The Perfect Day commercial gets everyone talking. Microsoft on the other hand has been rather bland and generic with their marketing.

Not saying it hasn't been great. I am saying they could learn some things from Microsoft. As I said before Microsoft launches better, but Sony is the better long term investment in my eyes.

3. The XBO launch event was a complete catastrophe. No thanks.

No...actually no it it wasn't. It was far more lively than Sony's lounge launch.

4. Increased advertising? Sure I agree. But more ads isn't always the right choice. Microsoft spent billions advertising Windows Phones yet it hasn't done much good. I'm one of like 3 people that actually owns one.

Windows Phones suck outside of their cameras. You cant mainuplate people into buying something thats worse than Samsung and the Iphone. Essentially Sony and Microsoft are the Samsung and Iphone of the gaming industry. Think about that.

5. Not sure your point here, Infamous comes out in March, Driveclub in the summer, The Order in the fall, and Uncharted in the holidays. They've got a steady stream of games coming all year.

Uncharted is not coming out this year, but Sony will have more hot exclusives out this year. I'll give you that.
