Forums - Sony - Five things Sony should take from microsoft to impress (even more) during their console launches.

1. Scout standout third party games for potential exclusivity in development and court them before the generation even starts.

Form deals and keep them away from the competition. Really? Warframe? Planetside? No. Leave those games on PC. Hate to break it to you but the majority of console gamers like top notch, twitch run and gun shooters. 

2. Stop being so artsy fartsy with your commercials and launches.

 Don't confuse casuals and non-gamers. Just show off the games and put your insignia behind it.

3.Microsoft makes their launches sociable, fun and the life of the party. 

Make more commercials that make third party titles seem like they are only on your platform.  Let celebrities in on the action. Go to Europe and invite national teams to your events and represent the Soccer clubs like Microsoft represents the NFL in America. There are actually teams that gave away Xbox Ones to their players at launch. I know so many gamers who thought COD: MW was an Xbox 360 exclusive because of the commercialism. Sony is starting to implement this method that Microsoft uses, but they need more of it.

4. Push up the marketing deadlines for your commercials pertaining to exclusives or to create hype for games coming out later.

Want to maximize sales? Increase the demand. Show off your games in movie theaters and billboards months ahead of time.When Halo 4 was coming out they had everyone believing that not only was Halo 4 the shit but that Mountain Dew and Doritos were the official food of Halo months before the launch. Manipulative? Yes, but it worked. Gametrialers was even in on it. Because of Sony's sales on the PS3 with specific games their commercials need to come out much sooner than later. They also need to target periods when consumers will have the most dispoable income. Microsoft launches their top games around that time.

5. Commercialize the PS4 as the place everyone wants to be. 

As I've shown you Microsofts ace card in the industry is masterful commercialism and expert strategy. If Sony did this they wouldn't have half of the problems that they have. Cover up your weaknesses. Sonys biggest weakness is having gaps between the launch and launching their biggest games. Be like Microsoft in that sense. Cover up your weaknesses so commercially it seems like you don't have any. I write this because this is exactly why I bought an Xbox before a PS3. 

Sure Sony will have the games, but that doesn't mean they couldn't cover up weak spots like Microsoft does.

Lol so far Sony has been "perfect" this gen from both a gamer and business perspective. In the humble words of EA, "can't be better when you're already number one."



You're not serious are you? If they did everything Microsoft did, then they wouldn't have sold half as much as they have.

1. Third party exclusive games are cool but dont spend millions on exclusivity when it can be used to invest in your own studios. Also get as many PC games as you can.
2. Continue the artsy fartsy commercials, they almost all have gone viral on youtube and are proving to be working, they're also pretty cool and stand out.
3. Dont host pointless parties with paid actors there to sing and big up your console. It doesnt work! It should be a celebration, and please god no rappers in da hizz house. Stay true to who you are, a games consoles, celebrate the games not the Ferrari car you leased.
4. Ok, you might be right.
5. The PS4 is clearly the place the mass market want to be without sony going over board, hosting parties with usher and other useless celebs like bieber and friends.

It  was a cramped lounge-like launch. Xbox Ones launch was a damn party. Was way more interesting to watch. It had everything there. No wonder the Xbox is so big with the common man in America.

E3, brand name and pricing have helped Sony more than anyone will ever know. Yes, thats enough to send shockwaves your way, but theres still more ground to be covered.

Bad press is the problem with the Xbox one and the $500 price point. They need to stop forcing the Kinect on people.
