Forums - Sales - Sony/Microsoft extremist: Do you still think 360 and PS3 can pass Wii in lifetime sales?

Probably not. Weird to see you get caught up in the fanboy ward, spurge. Then again, this was due sooner or later.

Let us eat crow.

X360 = No way! Microsoft will probably pull off the plug soon.

PS3 = If sony support the console for more 3 years and the sales stay on 50k->100k then it's possible.

My prediction:

- X360 will sell 82~85m(2014 is probably the last year for it)

- PS3 will sell 85~90m(If 2014 is the last year) or 88~93(if sony support for the whole 2015).
*IF sony support ps3 until end of 2016, I predict ~95m.

- Wii will probably end near to PS1(surpass maybe?).

I still think the PS3 has a chance to reach 100 million lifetime.

If we look at the PS2 and compare with its lifetime, then the PS3 would have 3 more year on the market or so. If I am correct?

But the PS2 was so much cheaper than the PS3 when it launched. I believe it cost $149 when the PS3 launched. That's 1/4 the cost of the PS3. That helped the PS2's sales. The PS4 has launched already with a much lower price tag than the PS3, and the PS3 is not even half the price of the PS4 yet. Also Sony has said they will offer past PS games on the PS4 so that will also go against the PS3's sales.

Plus the PS2 had incredibly unreliable hardware so I assume many of those units sold later were replacements especially cause it was so cheap.

I never thought it would. There's 20 million more to go. If the PS3 sold 100,000 a week it'd still take a little over three and a half years for that amount of sales. Sales were guaranteed to drop sometime. I thought it'd be around a year after the PS4 was released, but sales dropped sooner than I expected. Even if it was a year later, they still would have stood no chance reaching the Wii sales. Now it's guaranteed that there's no chance.

/ this.IMO Sony needs to release a 500gb ULTRA slim model for $200.I mean if they can make the PS4 that small for 399 they can make a smaller and cheaper PS3.This would boost the Ps3 sales for 100+k again.

The only one with a chance is the PS3 and thats a very slim chance, I don't think Sony will be still selling the PS3 in 3 years time so it'll probably never happen.

200k per month isn't 6 million in ten months... It's 2 million.  So 2 mil + 1 mil for holidays =3 million. 7 years for 21 million.... No.

This is so embarrasing that I wished you had never quoted me! Seriously. Man. How. What happened. What can I blame this on? Haha. :P

I must have meant 200k x 10(months) x 3(years). So yeah that would leave my prediction to 90m, so I change my mind and say no, they will not reach 100m.

Haha, I didn't want to do that to you, just wanted to clarify the numbers. We all make simple mistakes like that! I've done it too many times to count!

Yeah, I thought they both would've sold better for longer than they did. Pretty surprising to me. I think this just shows that people were really ready to move on, and that these old consoles are, well, old! It was a nice run though, regardless if they caught the wii or not. I enjoyed the ps360 a hell of a lot more than my wii. The best generation ever, in my view.

The ps3 could, but I doubt it will. I think the ps3 will get to 95 million, the 360 to 85-90 million, and the wii to 102 or 103 million.
