Yes, which is deal from 1988 that has pretty much no relevance today.

I would have LOVED a Super Nintendo in 1988.

You must have been born after 2000 or something.

SNES released in 1990 in Japan. Is is really that hard to imagine that there were talks about the system two years prior?

This has as much a chance as the Sony-Nintendo console from years ago. Look where that went.

You mean the deal from 1988? Most Sony and Nintendo execs from that time aren't even around anymore with their companies, and some have even passed away.

He means the SNES CD-ROM add on that became the Playstation.

"Development of the format started in 1988, when Nintendo signed a deal with Sony to produce a CD-ROM add-on for the SNES."

I stand corrected. I thought that it came later into the SNES's life, not that they planned it from the start. My bad. And here I was being all uppity about it! Sorry!

All that horsepower to Nintendo...and what would we probably get? Kirby in 4K.  Which is what Nintendo loyalists would clamor for.  But it doesn't alleviate the problem of mainstream SALES...

Nintendo could have made a system on par or greater than the PS4 or Xbox One, but it chose their route for a next gen console, which I agree with by the way. It's their VISION, that's the problem for them in the console market. They wouldn't use that added hardware to make better mainstream games with Nintendo's spin on them, they would be Nintendo games with better graphics. For that...it's not worth it to Nintendo, in my opinion...

But it's not an X1. It's a better version of the X1 with an expensive controller. The fact that Nintendo likes to sell their hardware with a profit makes it even more expensive.

Like I'm saying Wii U has a PowerPC CPU and X1 has a x86, so it would need TWO CPUs to play games for both systems. So it's not realistic that it would cost $349. Or would exist.

If it helps you consider the appeal of this product, you can say that pre-NBox Wii U games are available as download-only ported titles.  Post-NBox release titles can get a bridged release (like Zelda:TP) for a year or so until Wii U is phased out.  XBox One titles are playable on both One and NBox, being essentially the same system.

The controller isn't especially expensive.  Only marginally more than a standard XBOne controller.  It's two years from now and the screen is smaller than the Gamepad's.

I don't know if it would be worth it to Nintendo... but would it be worth it to you?  Keep in mind it's not just he hardware here.  Halo, Forza, Fable, Gears of War... these titles are all going to be on the NBox.  MarioKart 8 is now matchmaking through Live.  Call of Duty 2015 gets full support on the Nintendo console.  Grand Thef Auto 6 is coming.  These projects are all in development for One, and won't be cancelled just because the box is now sold under the Nintendo brand.  You get them, and you also get some Zelda U.  And a new Retro Metroid title.  And more Mario, etc.

Same relevancy still applies today. Same problems of that failed venture are still relevant. Nintys business culture and MS's ego would clash . They used to be just a card trading company. They would rather branch off into more non gaming ventures.

actually, here in brazil you can get a wii U and a XBO for less than a ps4.

It will not have third party support at all. Since Nintendo not being a retarded moral-less shit company is the problem NOT Nintendo being underpowered.

But since Nintendo would own all of MS IP i think it does not even need most of the third party games

Also Conker Banjo JoannaDark MasterChief MarcusFenix etc in Smash? + AgeOfEmpires Forza and Freelancer etc. assist trophies? Hmm why not?

Tbh. I would buy a NintenBox probably day1. (as long as it just as a XBLG fee for people that want online tournaments) and has free online as long as you play with people in your friendlist.

Only part I don't like is the part where MS gets 10% control.

It should be MS gets some level of Nintendo shares, plus cash, plus 10yr deal on networking / server support.

That gives Nintendo and MS a lot of good $, tech and immediate business. It allows Nintendo to retain full control while filling its largest gap. It also gives MS 10yrs to recoup the lost money from Xbox while also retaining a cloud services division model it can grow and focus on.

Nintendo will not give up control of IPs or game development. That is why they walked away from Sony pre-PlayStation.
