Forums - Microsoft - Polygon: Microsoft needs to admit the Xbox One Kinect is a peripheral, not a pack-in

Polygon needs to shut up.

Kinect being packed in with every system is the only fucking thing the Xbone has going for it.

Given the option of a $400 no Kinect SKU, I still would have went $500 with Kinect. It's that good. But they are completely right, a cheaper bundle without the Kinect would make the Xbox One sell a lot more. It's just common sense, cheaper = more people interested.

I give him 7.5 for trying.

He won't fool me though, he loves Kinect more than anything in the world, that's required with evidence if you want to join Lolygon.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

My largest argument against kinect has always been that the features that people are using from kinect could have been implemented in FAR cheaper solutions. Voice controls do not require $100-$150 in equipment. They could probably get 4-6 mics to handle that for pennies on the dollar. Face and body scanning stuff can be done with regular cheap cameras for pennies on the dollar(maybe not in the dark but even ir projectors at that scale of economy should be cheap). They just needed a better API. Xbox one seems to be just like their computers and operating system. Over engineered for the vast majority of peoples needs. Needlessly complex unless you are in that 10-15% of the market that uses very niche professional power software that costs thousands of dollars.

People need to admit that Kinect is a pack in, not a peripheral. This is not Playstation.

Been saying that for a long time. As if it'll ever become a huge hit in mainstream gaming. Mandatory Kinect is the biggest mistake MS made since RROD, in my opinion.

100% agreed. I have seen some of my hardcore xbox 360 friends to be converted to get ps4 recently. They just want to play games and have a good time.

They know that but they think it is not working that way... so MS needs to change... that's the Polygon opinion.

Sales are killing MS.

In my opinion the only think that differentiates Xbone is Kinect... if you removes it then it will loose in every single aspect to PS4... so it will became a non buy machine.

MS needs price cuts and games... I think the Kinect-less SKU a terrible idea.

Now some user experience with the UI... it doesn't works well without Kinect... it is a mess to navigate using controller on Xbone.... the UI was designed to works with Kinect... so if they choose to go with non-Kinect SKU they will need to make drastic changes in the UI.

Yep i actually agree, I think they should cut cost to 400$ with kinect, They wanted  it in the box, show confidence in the product.  I only turn on my kinect for Games that use it. System navigation is not to bad, does need some improvement.

I have been a little upset with the lack of support for Kinect.  If they wanted people to buy in, then why no support? They thought the Kinect navigation and voice controls would sell by it self. I have to say Microsoft dropped the ball on this one. I like it but wanted games, not just a menu add on.

Sales are fine. Many countries not yet released in. And Titanfall is next month. Microsoft would be stupid to react to anything now. Sales are fine for 13 countries. Its only been 3 months. Lets revisit sales at E3.
