Forums - Gaming - F**k I think my PS3 Broke

Next time it happens, try to boot it in safe mode and rebuild the databases, restore file system, default settings etc, before you give up. Some of the options will make you lose your files, but if your ps3 isn't working what have you got to lose!!?

I may try this tomorrow, tho I doubt it will work.

It froze (w/ vertical white lines) after I played about 20 minutes today.  Fuckin unreal.  The ps3 is 2.5 years old, and I hadn't touched it in the last 6 months except to play The Last of Us dlc which came out this past Friday.

I waited an hour and tried turning it back on but got nothing but a blank screen.  I tried a new hdmi and resetting the video output to no avail.  Anyone know whats wrong with it?  I've been reading online and it sounds like the gpu is dying/dead.  Is it fixable?

Now I have a delema on my hands.  Dark Souls 2 is coming out in a few weeks and it was going to likely be the last ps3 game I'd get before transitioning into the next gen.  I have a laptop capable of handling Dark Souls 2 but I'd much rather play on console bc of the pvp community.  Also, I have it pre ordered (for ps3), tho I likely can cancel it.  What should I do?

Reflowing the Motherboard is pretty much the only way to fix this. Unless you identify and resolder the solder points on the motherboard and gpu that is causing this problem. If you don't know how to reflow it I recommend you watch a video or you simply sell it on Ebay... But if your not afraid to at least try and you feel you have nothing to lose, then go ahead and attempt it. It's worth a shot.

Perfect time to get a ps4!

Its not a GPU problem as some are suggesting, what you have their is defective memory.

I remember when Dark Souls came out and I picked it up as soon as the game store opened, raced home to play it only to find my HD had corrupted :( didn't have the money to buy a new one since I spent the last of my cash on the game lol Mine was an easy fix though I dunno what to do in your situation.

Your HD corrupted? Did you have to play it in 480p? D:

No silly! When it is corrupted you have to pay money to it so it will let you play.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Try putting in a different hard drive and see what happens. Maybe all you need is a fresh OS (operating system)

Most people online seem to say its a gpu issue. I would consider reflowing it... but most of the tutorials online use it to reverse the ylod. How temporary is the fix if done correctly?
