Indeed things could change a bit if Microsoft was willing to take losses to stay competitive. But, if reports are accurate the new CEO is already under fire to kill the Xbox, Bing and Surface. The board wont be pleased with taking more losses on the Xbox business. And thats where the problem is for the Xbox. The console business just isnt as appealing to Microsoft as their B2B.

So, do i expect thing to stay the way they are? Yes, i do. Because the only chance for them in europe is to be priced below the PS4, and that would mean taking losses. The only i see on their hand is to unbundle the kinect and match the price of the PS4. Thats basically all they can do. But i dont think its enough to revert the situation.

Your combination of over estimating the PS4 and under estimating the X1 form a distorted picture of the situation. MS will not discontinue the Xbox. It's not like it has to. Their finances are stable and in a continuous up trend, like they always are. The gaming division is such a small part of the company. The new CEO so far hasn't shown any intention of losing any division. Share holders talk a lot of stuff but that doesn't necessarily result in actions. See Nintendo. The consumer business is important to MS, no matter how much the investors ignore it.

MS still has all the chances to take NA. They don't need to rule the european market to stay profitable. From this year on it could go either way. I don't expect any game droughts from any of the consoles but MS still has the chance to hit it off with the casuals while the PS4 hype slowly dies off. Or of course the momentum of the PS4 could be too big and swallow X1 sales. I would never write off the X1 though. What MS has done with the 360 is a feat comparable to what Sony did with the PS1. Penetrating and winning a believed closed market. Of course it did so with major help from the PS3. So the same Situation like it is now, just reversed.

There is like a 30% chance that this gen won't be completely dominated by the PS4. Too big to ignore.

As you say that, rumors that Microsoft is in talks with amazon to sell the Xbox division come up. I think you are ignoring something that is clear. Microsoft doesnt want to lose more money on the Xbox, and at this pace, they will have to.

Microsoft gets into businesses to win and the fact is they cant win in the games market. Yeah they can get profitable when they manage to 1-up Sony at the start, but that isnt the case anymore. This market is a bad investment for them. They would be better off investing on a different market for the ammount of money they have to throw at it.

Don't underestimate the pride of business men with too much money ;)

I'm not ignoring anything. MS just doesn't seem to be a quitter. Look how long the following things already lasted: Zune, Bing, Windows mobile. Those were even bigger failures and none were even close to market leader. Xbox is at least still a brand connected to success. Xbox is not doing badly, it's just doing worse than a competitor that's doing surprisingly well. Things you sell tens of millions of are not failures.

Those figures say otherwise, the ones in your OP.

I know this is a hard time and all, but wut?

PS2 dominated more than that...

PS4 is whipping ass, no question but this is way too early to call.

I agree it's too early to call, but the numbers in the op don't say otherwise lol.

He posted them for arguments sake. PS2 dominated more than.... What is that 40 percent marketshare for that week?

Yes, it does.

Yeah, but the PS4 is currently having stock issues. Lets just say everyone could get a PS4 right now, it would probably have out sold the Xbone 4:1 in January.

Once Sony gets there heads parked out of their rear and ramp up production, it's a wrap. No two ways about it.

I already foresee this in the first day I saw the announcement in February and the GDDR5 !!, literally when I heard the 8 GB GDDR5 my jaw dropped!, I know the importance of the memory amount in a GPU, the more ammount on it it will skyrocket on a video card, the only thing that intrigue me was how they are going to use in on the OS and CPU or in this case APU, but in the end, we saw right of the bat the difference on the very first games. All of them superior on the PS4 and those were the first games!!

Kojima in a recent interview said he was amazed how the PS4 handles full HD and 60 fps and still has room to spare.

Yes the PS4 delivered!, months before it release I was saying and still keep saying this is PS2/PS1 all over again ;)

Sony with PS1 and PS2 it basically saved the game industry, give a lot opportunitys to game developers awesome franchises were created and got multimillion dollar famous, RE, MGS, DMC, FF, Gran Turismo, Rachet, lots of ..lots of IPs and if look all of them there were not online or MP games all awesome SP experiences!, the game industry is flooded with MP games and this kind of games are killing it, so is time the PS4 put some order into the industry.

There really isn't two ways about it. As many have now said with me, PS2 levels of domination are likely never to be seen again. Especially not this gen. The Xbox One had a top 3 launch of all time for consoles and is tracking above most consoles still...

Everyone is just getting "caught up" in the success of the PS4 right now. It's really not going to happen, espcially when 60% of the PS4 users right now have a Vita... The most devout fans won't last. A drop in sales is coming. Just like every console before it.

Yeah, but look how badly the Xbone has already dropped off sales wise. If anything, people got caught up in the 360's success and assumed the One would have the same fate just based off brand name alone.

Looking at the numbers, it's just not happening. Xbone fans can stay delusional all they want, but the truth is, at this rate, it's already getting out of hand.

maybe ps1 numbers not ps2

What, can you not read sales numbers? The PS4 out sold the Xbone damn near 3:1 in just one week.

Xboners can try to down play it all they want, but the facts remain the same. The Xbone it's getting it's ass kicked and no amount of vapid denial can save it.

And your crystal ball can predict sales figures 1,2,3,4,5+ years down the road?
