Forums - Gaming - Candy Crush Saga Makes Close To 800K Per Day In Revenue!!!!

800K a day for the leader of the market? That's a bit under $300 million a year. That's how much revenue a game gets when it sells 5 million copies between platforms. And in this industry, there are usually several games that reach this mark every year.

Impressive, but not market-shattering.

As pointed out by the posters on the thread that is just for US, and just for iOS, so it is only a portion of their income. They also have 2 other games in top 10 top grossing list. Also, a console game has around 100X higher dev cost, and the retailers and others take a much bigger cut.

that is just iOS! if you also count Android, and windows phone OS its quite a bit more remember

"Think Gaming estimates are currently only for the US market and iOS app store."

not world wide, this is just one game, they run tv ad spots all the time, and not just for candy crush only!

My GOODNESS! If this (specifying video game industry) doesn't make you lose faith in humanity, then I don't know what is.
So fucking sad, this is worst than m$ drm/anti-competitive/money hatting/bribing/lies....

wait, before you say that think aqbout this for a sec..GTA: games 3, vice city,sa all have high download #'s

if anything its expanding the market for hardcore games than it is shrinking them, for instance the hardware in these smartphones and Tablets contain chipsets powerful enough to run GTA games like Vice city and SA on a Tablet or a Phone, many people who have smartphone's that may not play games on a console can play a console quality game on a smartphone or tablet, with a bluetooth game pad you get a console game experience. if anything its expanding the market not shrinking it!

Living room consoles are still quite viable, you have systems that sell multiple Millions of systems in under 2 months time not just one platform but more than one! there is room for both. Now the fact these chips are as powerful as they are means just like the dedicated PDA market the smartphone and tablet has disrupted the market, its not a matter if or when now it already has. but since game development companies are expanding into smartphones and tablets does not mean the living room consoles will go away. the market just means that its expanded larger than it was before, smartphones are now not just seen as only for communication only but publisher's and development studios see the benefit to expand into.

All three Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony all have invested into smart devices for game development investment also, so its not really a problem in my opinion.

This is the same shit as 1983. The market is going to implode as well in a couple of years, once there are too many shitty Apps/Games. Right now these game are a novelty for regular ppl, but they won't keep on playing shit like this forever. Especially once Smartphone HW develops further on further it will become harder and harder to dish out shit like that and find ppl to play this stuff.

Every developer jumping on this train and actually thinking it is going to be future investment '(instead of easy fast cash) deserves what's coming to them.

while i see where you are coming from , just to point this out you may want to revise your outlook.

http://about.king.com/about

since 2003, Smartphone's back than did not have the advantage of the mobile chips we have today, the point I think is even though they do not have the advantages of the chips today, they established a change in the market, today with Android, iOS, and Windows Phone OS, these new chips offer more than just "casual games"

Fact is, look at the download #'s

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rockstargames.gtasa

look at the install #'s since

 December 30, 2013 there have been over 100,000 - 500,000

that is just for the play store

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/grand-theft-auto-san-andreas/id763692274?mt=8

again

http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/gta-san-andreas/c011568d-1578-4d0a-b1cc-9ab7daf58681

but yet they are not on the PSVita or the 3DS, the profit margins are high enough the ROI is out of this world most likely for publisher's, that is what has changed the smartphone chipsets are not just for mainly only "casual games"

It doesn't matter what the numbers are now or how they have developed - the market will be oversatuturated at one point with these miny Games, it is just history repeating itself. People are fine playing stuff like that for now and maybe even making micro transactions, but even "casual gamers" develop their tastes after a while. Remember Tamagotchi, Wii-success, FB-Games and whatnot? There have been countless trends in the last decades. this is just one of them, albeit a profitable one.

I'm not saying Smartphones themselves won't develop into fully capable gaming machines in the future, but by then we will se "real" games on them and less stuff like that. And I wouldn't mind playing good games on my phone instead of playing them on my 3DS or my Vita. Or at least we are going to see more innovative stuff, because not all smartphone apps are crap, some are quite clever and more entertaining than "normal" games actually.

And I even have to admit that I hardly see or know anyone playing this shit when walking through the city in Germany, or taking a break during work. Most ppl actually play these games as if they were actual games - this whole bullshit about people playing on the go, in the tram or wherever is such a huge media myth ..

I have seriously no clue what this game even is about lol. At least I have heard about it, that Flappy Bird game was something I first read about in a VGC thread I think yesterday.

Its Bejeweled - pay up or wait edition.

And for some reason (which I cannot explain), casuals can't get enough of it.

how much money does MKWii still make selling 1M in the last 9 months? LOL

= (Price per game sold-Cost per game sold)*1,000,000

So if they sell for $50, that's 50 million - 1,000,000*cost of game.  So less than Candy Crush Saga.

Outside the few very popular games like these, there are millions of other mobile games and clones that don't make any money.

If you wanna get in this industry just be aware your chance of reaching the App Store Top 10 is almost 0.

800K a day!? This is incredible revenue for a game as simple as Candy Crush Saga! This actually proves that what counts the most on mobile is the entertainment factor. If you have a simple but original game, that is catchy and addictive, you are up for great heights!

The game totally deserves it. It's got 1080p 60fps after all.
