ok, I have a question about the persona games. I have never played any of them, but I am slightly interested. Do I have to start from persona 1 for the games to make sense? or can I just jump in at persona 4?

I swear that I'd buy an American 3DS just to play Persona Q provided it doesn't come to Europe. If any of these games stay in Japan, however, I won't be getting that particular one. Likely. Probably. Maybe. ... Oh man, who am I kidding. I'll be getting them anyway. |
I'm also worried that PQ won't make it to Europe, or if it does, it will be a million years after the NA version.

All the Persona games are separate stories, aside from Persona2: Innocent Sin and Persona2: Eternal Punishment, which are connected.
If I were you, I'd start off with P4. Most beginner friendly, it is...

You can jump into any of them. I'd recommend playing Persona 3 first, if you can.

You can jump in anywhere. There might be some references/connections to other games in the series, but each numbered entry has a unique story and is generally its own game.
Also, Personas 3 and 4 are quite different from 1 and 2, so keep that in mind.

It must be the FES version, since it has the after story included.

I won't miss important plot details or story?

Not really, but there is a small cameo from Persona 3 in the game.
