Forums - Sony - Why the heck is everyone so crazy about the PS4?

It's mostly because a lot of people are tired of their ancient PS3/360 and want to upgrade to a new console ... the PS4 has been designated the "golden child" because it's $100 cheaper with equal/better specs to the X1.

Though I agree based on actual merit, it's a bit overrated. The X1 has the better library.

How? Ps4 has had new games fleshing out it;s library and adding variety every month, with indies the ps4 has a better lineup currently. outlast is excellent. It's free.

No one's seriously paying $400 for a state of the art new console to play some rinky dink indie games.

PS4/X1 are the consoles of choice for people who want big TV experiences ... the PS4 just fills that gap for $100 less.

Honestly we've never really seen this in the industry before where a more powerful system was $100 cheaper than its competetion.

It would be like if the SNES launched at $50 less than the Genesis while having a decent edge in graphics.

Excellent price for the hardware you're getting, plus it already has the definitive console versions of most of today's most popular games (BF, CoD, NBA, Madden, Fifa, etc.), not to mention awesome video apps and a steaming service like Twitch. A monkey can figure out that the console just being shy of 4 months old isn't going to have a robust library of games or apps. It takes early adopters to put money into what's there so that the console manufacturer and devs alike can put more money into bringing more games to it. There's over 100 games confirmed for 2014 alone, and a few already planned for 2015 and beyond. PS4 is great. This seems more like a "Why are people buying PS4 over WiiU?!?!" type of outcry.

thats cause it is. but we already know the answer to that, even if people want to lie to themselves.

I'd take a PS4 over a Vita, 3DSXL and Wii U combined, with their entire libraries. It's a question of taste, and your personal tastes may differ from the majority.

The PS4 has great word of mouth, some promising games on the horizon and it's quite affordable. (You mention it's pricey? Try €650 for the last iteration, that was pricey!).

Next gen brings back all the old members.

Because we all know what console will have more and better exclusives at the end. That's it.

Well I really like my PS4. I mean I am not bouncing off the walls about it but it is really nice. Has a great interface too. And even though it really doesn't have big games on it yet (although Killzone was a big game for some people just not me) it isn't like the future lineup is lacking. So some, like me, bought it early as a future investment for games to come.

Zucas, will the PS4 be "your Xbox 360" for this gen?

Depends on a few factors.  One, how improved is the online infrastructure.  Big fan of Xlive and have been a member for almost 9 years now.  Most of my friends play that online too.  So a lot will depend on the online.  Second, is just how long it takes me to get an X1.  I want one as soon as Halo comes out but things might change.

If I had to give you an answer though, I would say probably not.  I just seem to like the Xbox systems more and don't see a drastic transition over to Playstation.  However, I will probably be playing a lot more games on Playstation than I have in the past.

Here's the other point that I think is true -- most people in the market for a PS4 or X1 AREN'T fanboys actually.

Either Sony/MS are just fine by them since they market pretty much to the primary audience -- teenage-college age males (which filters down to young boys who want to emulate whatever older kids like). All the marketing and design of the consoles is tailored to the tastes of this crowd.

MOST X1/PS4 fans actually don't care that much about Halo or Uncharted or whatever exclusive franchises there are. Just call that a wash.

They just want a next-gen console that gives them access to all the third party content -- so all the CODs, Maddens, FIFAs, Battlefields, GTAs, Batman, BioShocks, Borderlands, NBA 2Ks, Need For Speeds, etc. etc. etc. etc.

THAT is what that audience wants. They're really not all that loyal to either Sony or MS, they will simply go with one or the other based on which ever one suits their needs better.

Sony is offering the same experience (more or less) as Microsoft is for $100 cheaper with even slightly better graphics. So for a lot of people the choice is fairly easy to make.

Troll threads that aren't even funny. You can do better OP.

In 7 years from now it will have had the far and away best exclusive lineup of the 3 new gen systems. Also, if you have a decent to good job 400 USD is not very much money.  Tons of people paid 50% more than that for the PS3.  Also how exactly does it have no games?  It has plenty more games than I have time or want to play or would spend the money on, and it has since Day 1...
