Here's the other point that I think is true -- most people in the market for a PS4 or X1 AREN'T fanboys actually.
Either Sony/MS are just fine by them since they market pretty much to the primary audience -- teenage-college age males (which filters down to young boys who want to emulate whatever older kids like). All the marketing and design of the consoles is tailored to the tastes of this crowd.
MOST X1/PS4 fans actually don't care that much about Halo or Uncharted or whatever exclusive franchises there are. Just call that a wash.
They just want a next-gen console that gives them access to all the third party content -- so all the CODs, Maddens, FIFAs, Battlefields, GTAs, Batman, BioShocks, Borderlands, NBA 2Ks, Need For Speeds, etc. etc. etc. etc.
THAT is what that audience wants. They're really not all that loyal to either Sony or MS, they will simply go with one or the other based on which ever one suits their needs better.
Sony is offering the same experience (more or less) as Microsoft is for $100 cheaper with even slightly better graphics. So for a lot of people the choice is fairly easy to make.
