Not if its just on PC. Too many people will pirate it. No way it will sell that many unless it has some crazy online functionality.
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke
It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...." Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

It will most likely do better than The Sims 2 and I expect lifetime sales to exceed 6 mln (PC version only).
If they end up putting the game on every platform currently out there, which it looks like they're doing, and most of them don't end up being total garbage, which is still reasonably likely, the game might very well sell up to five million during its first year, and at least as much during the rest of its life. Don't quote me as saying those are the most likely numbers, though. =P
The PC version is guaranteed to sell millions on the first demonstration videos alone, but I'm still slightly skeptical as to how much effort is being put into the console versions. The DS version is pretty much a completely unrelated project that looks like there were three people developing it, and AFAIK there are virtually no details on the Wii and HD console versions.
I think this game will do just fine. I really can't wait to pick it up.

The Sims 1 and 2 say hello.
Casual PC players aren't smart enough to pirate.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release. (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

There's ALWAYS a way to pirate, no matter how crappy and a chore it is. It's likely that there will be a separate pirated Spore network...ultimately limited without the content of the paying players...but they don't care...it's a loss they accept when they pirate...just like the players that play on their own separate servers for Steam games.
