Forums - Sony - Sony: nearly half of PS Vita’s game sales are digital (48%)

That is surprising considering the ripoff the mem cards are.

I'm not all that surprised. There are a good amount of PSN-only titles like others have been saying. I would know cause I have a PS Vita. Also, I can imagine that there are people who rather not buy the cartridges for the Vita since a lot of the retail titles are available on PSN. I don't think that including digital sales on PSV retail games will be dramatically above what most people already expected.

Includes PSN only titles for sure (and lots more of these than retail), so don't anyone go trying to double retail sales and act like you're anywhere close to being right.

...also, they still don't drop memory card prices to a reasonable price, despite this.

Let's say it like that :

Despite memory card high price, half the game's sales are still digital.

Why would Sony make cards cheaper ?

Your statement is somewhat true.

However, if memory cards were cheaper, gamers would purchase more games to fill it up. I went from a 4gig, to an 8gig, to a 16gig and now to a 32 gig. I love having many games on my system at 1 time.

Oh and I got my 32gig on sale during the holidays ($40)

I got a 32 GB card the day before the PS Vita was released. That thing filled up sooooo fast. I was pretty much 90% digital on PSP because it was convenient. I went almost totally physical with the Vita because that thing filled up with PSP, PS1, and Digital only Vita games almost instantly.

I have an 8GB memory card full of DBZ episodes but when I remove the game card for the video card, my stuff gets all scrambled despite the update that was supposed to prevent this from happening.

My point: It's actually more convenient to buy physical with the Vita.

So it means that basically Vita owners are buying lots of PsOne, PS+ and PSP games...... and Japan counts for the retail games.

....and the sales overall are still crap.

Look at vita physical sales, they suck, doubling that number still makes sales crap.  Physical sales are not going to get much better because the physical released games are mostly B-grade at best, digital sales are priced at 15-20% of a retail game on average so those aren't bringing in as much money as retail despite almost matching it.  Yet digital is the only place they can really push sales so they should drop card prices and do that.

Vita is doing dire, this PR spin of info doesn't change that.

I'm a happy vita owner, and games are good enough for me. I don't think Sony is loosing that much money on vita either, so that's fine on an economic level too.

And I don't think dropping memory card price would have any effect on hardware sales, the software/hardware ratio is ok already so I don't see the point in making memory card cheaper right now.

@OP: this explains why Sony is moderately happy about it despite low HW sales.
